"Clash of the Choirs" begins tonight on NBC at 7:00 pm (cst).
The daughter of two of our staff pastors is in Kelly Rowland's choir.
Her name is Ivy Rush. If this choir makes it through the round of competition tonight,
Ivy gets to sing a solo... maybe tomorrow night.
Ivy grew up in our church and studied music at SNU and at PLNU.
This is a "live" competition. Watch it and vote for your favorite choir.
Hopefully, that will be Kelly Rowland's Houston choir. Ivy needs your support and your votes.

your church were.

Watched it, Carmen. Most of them didn't do too badly. Will be watching the rest of them, methinks ... not bad for someone who usually doesn't really like choirs (tho' I've sung in many! Go figure! (prefer smaller # usually, where you can tell who's singing what) ;)]

A couple thoughts about the shows.
1) selcetion/arangements make all the difference in the world. Compare Shelton's and Bolton's with the others. The songs were not good "group" songs and the arangements were terrible. Even if their choirs were good, the song choice virtually eliminated them imho.
2) I was disappointed overall in the show. Except LaBelles choir, I thought they were all terrible. By the way, is the point of a choir to produce good music, or to dance. I keep getting confused?

We caught the second half of the show and you know something is mismatched a little when even the other celebrities all said the Philly choir was the best. It was amazingly apparent to me that Patti knows what she's doing and took this really seriously. That was a pretty awesome presentation. It might actually get me to tune in again.

From my blog....
I've been way out of the reality tv loop since it just got ridiculous, but I found myself glued to this last night. Here's how the first night of competition breaks down for me:
#1. Patty Labelle - Just go ahead and cut the check for Philly. Big black girls can SANG!!!!
#2. Nick Lachey - a very close second, and hands down winner on choreography.
#3. Kelly Rowland - gotta give a shoutout to h-town on this one.
#4. Michael Bolton - you know, the old lady is cool, but he picked about the worst song ever for a choir.
#5. Blake Shelton - huh?
If I ever decide to be on a reality show, I'll get my story in place. All you have to do during the audition is say something like "I was stricken with diverticulitis as a child. I've overcome so many obstacles to be here," and you're a shoe-in.

I pretty much agree with your assesment. I got a phone call and missed Patti LaBelle's choir, but everybody seemed to enjoy it. I got online and voted for Team Lachey and Team LaBelle. I didn't know about the Nazarene girls at the time, or I would have voted for Team Rowland too.

OK, saw Monday, but Tuesday before they told who had been eliminated after Monday's round, I fell asleep [easy to do sometimes when I decided to lie down for back's sake about halfway through].
So, once Wednesday came, and I caught it about 40 minutes after it had started [ESL Christmas party ran later than the usual class, so didn't get to it by the 8:10-15 I'd been expectinhg ;)], didn't hear then, either, which one had been eliminated Tuesday.
Knowing which two were out of the race by Wednesday, my curious question is which one occurred Monday and which one occurred Tuesday? Who went first ... Rowland or Bolton?
Finally, wondered myself about some of the arrangements/song choices, because that can soooo influence a huge audience made up of a whole lot of people other than fellow musicians. Didn't realize it was the "choir directors" [couldn't help but notice Shelton seems uncomfortable enough with "directing" that the poor guy basically just stood there last night in front of them rather than giving much "direction"] who picked the songs. Where was my mind when they mentioned that (probably did, didn't they?)?

I was disappointed with one of Team LaBelle's selections last night. I didn't care for their rendition of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Their first song was terrific. I thought Nick Lachey's choir was the best this time around. Patti's solo--not my cup of tea. I thought she sounded shrill at times.
I really with they had done this differently. I would like to see all the choirs perform every night, with voting taking place each night. Then, on the last night, name a winner. They don't need to have losers. There are too many losers on the other, mean-spirited, reality shows. They don't need that on this show, too.

the "Flight of the Bumblebee" was incredible. That is the best number this week, IMO.

Thanks, Mark. That guy does seem to be a musical sort, tho' I'm not all that enamored with his singing. Did seem to do well with what I did see of his choir. [made me think back to him & Jessica, however; that was sad, but then not unusual for "Hollywood"]

Sing a Song by Team Lachey's Choir was awesome. He won hands down. That makes Dancing with the Stars, and now, Clash of the Choirs winner. Wow! What's next?

Maybe "winning" his wife back? [always the romantic, having also seen some divorced folks/friends remarry, et cetera]

The right choir won. Patti LaBelle's choir was best the first night, but after that Nick's choir was consistently great, while Patti's had ups and downs. I hope they do this again. This was a great show.

I saw parts of it, but the MC lady (whatever you call them) for some reason really really bugged me. She made me turn the channel on more than one occasion. She actually made me miss Ryan Seacrest................
I thought the right choir won though, from what I saw. I didn't really dig Patti's solo either, sounded like she was screaming.

Yes, she can really sing, but didn´t demo it that time around for whatever reason.
