A few years ago, Allaire Corporation (then Macromedia, now Adobe) used the word 'evangelist' to refer to Ben Forta, the #1 product booster for ColdFusion. (a web programming technology)
I thought at the time that it was an interesting use of the term, but recently I have been hearing the term used more often in reference to someone who promotes a cause or product.
