What is the best chocolate you can buy in the U.S.?

I'm thinking of buying someone chocolate for Christmas.

Can you find real Belgian chocolate here?

Godiva

Lindt

Ghirardhelli (sp?)

Some of these may be imported. Do they still count?

N E S T L E S, Nestles makes the very best.... chocolate!

The world's best chocolate comes from about thirty miles from here in Burlington, WI, also known as "Chocolate City, USA."

(And to think there are those who only thought WI was tops in cheese and cranberries.)

Well, a neighbor of yours said she was delighted that the Aldi recommendation was a good one. They have chocolate from Germany, brand name Moser-Roth, in a flat black soft box (about 4"x10-12"x1/4") with gold lettering. [oops! forgot to say who that neighbor was: Edith. So, ask her. ;)]

It's some of the best dark chocolate (less sugar in it than many dark chocolates you find here made by American companies) ... a nice bite to it. I'm addicted to it, in fact.

Anyway, inside this box are 5 separate small bars. It's about 3.5oz each box for $1.49, comparable to, and better than some, of the Lindt, even, unless you would get the Lindt with a really high percentage of cocoa in it.

Yea, Aldi's ... Yea, Moser-Roth (of Germany)! You did mention Bavarian choco, anyway, didn't you? Isn't Bavaria part of Germany, anyway? [not a geography person, but it seems this is right :o]

In my book, anything chocolate is wonderful, no matter what country, or what brand. My personal favorite, m and m's.

In terms of Christmas gifts. I can send you my address if you want to send me some. Brian.:laughing;)

Godiva is sold at Macy's. I still prefer Russell Stovers.

Wanda, google "Belgian chocolates + Oklahoma City" and your choices can be seen. Even the cafe at the Museum of Art has Belgian chocolate cake. Several of the companies who make gift baskets have them available. The chocolates that are made in Europe tend to have much less sugar and more cocoa powder used than those manufactured in the U.S. If you decide to invest in quality chocolates for a gift, it could be a good idea to find out if the person favors dark or light chocolate; cream filling or solid; etc. Good quality chocolates from Europe tend to have a slightly higher price point than their counterparts made in the U.S. If you want real Belgian chocolate, don't even consider "Belgian" chocolates that are made in the U.S. You have to actually find out where the chocolate is manufactured. There is a Godiva store at Penn Square Mall and I do believe that Macy's stocks that brand.

After having said all that......Gina definitely knows a quality bar of chocolate and at a wonderful price point. You could give a whole basketful of those for just a fraction of what a pound of other European chocolates cost. And the Moser-Roth is actually made in Germany!

If you decide to go to Penn Square to shop, why not stop by the Brookstone Store on the ground level and ask a clerk to give you a demonstration in one of their massage chairs. Ah, you will thank me for this suggestion! It is wonderfully relaxing and they are so generous to those desiring to use the chairs.

Yours for happy and successful shopping,

How´d we get from CHocolate to CHairs, Edith! Probably because, if you´re speaking of those ¨shiatsu (sp?) massage things, they´re super! Tried one once ... at first it hurt, such pressure on a very sore spot, but if you make it through that initial wincing, and don´t move away from it, it begins to feel better, as it´s massaging out a knot or two ....... ahhhhhhh! Would love one of those, but they´re something like $150´200 (somehow some of my symbols are messed up, no hyphen, for instance).

Good idea!

Gina, the recliner chairs I am speaking of are priced between $2,000-$3.000. They have computers in them which scan the person's body and then prescribe a program for the chair to perform for that individual. The entire spine and neck are massaged (stem to stern) and even the lower legs on some models. It is quite relaxing to have a massage at Brookstone's venerable chairs. If Wanda really wants to make her friend happy, she could include one of those with the chocolates. :basic01

$2000 to $3000!? Oh, my! Had no idea ... hadn´t seen such a thing and didn´t recall ¨recliner¨being mentioned. Anyway, for one not so $$'endowed, finding a place where one might try them now and then would be nice. However, those cheaper things that massage rather than just vibrate aren´t all that bad, compared with nothing.

My daughter treated me with a small box of Godiva chocolates one year. They were wonderful, of course, but I don't know if they were so much better than Lindt or our own Lake Champlain Chocolates (truffles, mmmm).

Consumer Reports did a comparison of chocolates once; maybe it's on their online version?

Farfel...I mean, Winston...I think you're biased! :laughing

Thanks, Edith.

I purchased a massage chair a couple of years ago... a good one. But I found we didn't use it. I used the foot/leg part, though.
