View Full Version : Will it snow in heaven

I'm looking at the white Christmas poll thread and seeing the beautiful photos and the thought came to me...will it snow in heaven? Come to think of it I don't know that the Bible says anything at all about heaven's weather systems. I guess we could presume sunny days constantly because we are so near the son but would God eliminate something so beautiful as snow? Of course you have to have cloudy days to have snow...I wonder.

What a question lol!
Maybe in the new earth there will be seasons and snow? However i imagine a perfect environment, and cold winters days somehow don't seem to fit into my vision of things!

It will snow but we will all have good winter gloves and good winter coats. The fabric will be lightweight but extremely warm. There will be no yellow snow and no soot. you can probably have snow without clouds - check your freezer.
Of course, I'm a member of the snow lovers club and this is all just speculation. ;) ;) ;)

I've heard ministers say that they think Heaven will be what each of us there expects it to be for us. Streets of gold, tables covered with food, etc., etc., etc. If that's the case, there will be NO snow in Heaven -- at least in my Heaven.
I'm thinking that Hell is where the snow will be.
Weather forecast for Sun Lakes today - sunny, clear and 65 degrees. Just like Heaven!

In Narnia, there was snow as long as the White Witch was ruling, the snow began to melt signaling an end of her reign, when it was gone Aslan came. So I think that, at least in Narnia heaven, there will be no snow.

A semi-serious answer. I think heaven is the earth remade and that the weather patterns will be much the same as they are now.
The difference will be that glorified humanity will be better suited to a wide variety of temperatures. It may be that a desert dweller will finally understand why people in colder parts of the world love the cold weather and the New Englanders will finally see how a person can possibly live in the humid south and love it.
It other words, I think we will be changed more than will the weather.
However, my weather theology isn't complete, because I haven't worked in how a glorified humanity can possibly be happy with hurricanes and tornadoes!

As much as it would be nice if there was well-behaved snow in heaven, I'm much more concerned that there may not be any surf in heaven. Revelation 21:1 indicates: "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."
Now, this may not be a big deal to a mid-westerner, but to a dinki di Aussie, the idea there would be no sea - no surfing, no sailing, no swimming - is horrendous!
When I was much younger, surfing was my passion. Surely, one of our biblical scholars can reassure me that there will be perfect tubes in heaven.

To the Hebrews, the sea was a threat. I think this verse is much more about the threat being gone, than the idea that part of God's creation wasn't good enough to make it through the renewal.

I knew this. Its hard to think of any good Hebrew surfers or sailors. The Phoenicians (Philistines) were sea-farers and probably could surf, but will there be any Philistines in heaven?

Would you believe flakes of gold in the shape of snowflakes and I will volunteer to drive the street sweeper not because I would net anything from doing so. I have just thought with the streets of gold it would be interesting to drive the street sweeper particularly if it snowed goldflakes and the goldplow if it golds more than the sweeper can handle.

So, Coach Landry may still be working...
A Pro-Bowl NFL player died and when he got to Heaven was delighted to find there was a football (gridiron for our Commonwealth brethren) team. When St. Peter was showing him the players in a scrimmage the player noticed the officials had letters instead of numbers on their backs. He asked St. Peter about it and Peter replied, "The letters are their officiating position, U for umpire, FJ for field judge etc." The player then asked, "What about the guy on the sideline with the hat and the G on his back." St. Peter laughed and said, "Oh, that's Tom Landry, he thinks he's God."
...we may still hear this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LENbDDt54KI) and Lambeau Field may still be "the frozen tundra." :laughing :q)

Your answer is a very post modern response (this is an observation not a criticism). According to many post moderns, there is no absolute truth - only what is true for us.
Along the same lines, I am reminded of the lyrics of the 2000 song "Heaven is a Half Pipe" by OPM, which indicates that for them:
"If I die before I wake
At least in heaven I can skate
Cos right now on earth
I can't do jack
Without the man upon my back.
Now heaven would be a DJ
Spinnin' dub all night long
And heaven would be just kickin'
Back with Jesus packin' my bong
And if you don't believe in Jesus
Then Mohammed and Buddha too
And while the world is warring
We just sit back and laugh at you....
Now when most people think of heaven
They see those pearly gates
But I looked a little closer
And there's a sign that says: "Do not skate"
So if you wanna to come to MY (emphasis mine) heaven
Well we all gonna have a ball
And everyone you know is welcome
'Cause we got no gates or walls.
For them, their heaven has no restrictions - absolute freedom, no artificial rules or regulations. There is infinite time to pack your bong, skateboard, hang out with Jesus, or Buddha or Mohammed. For them, everyone is welcome, there is a cessation of war. Perhaps (like Pink and the group Faithless), God is the DJ who spins "the dubs" all night long.
In much the same way that we tend to create God in our own image, we tend to do the same in our paradigms of paradise. We extrapolate from the very best of human experience and see heaven in those terms. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as long as we recognise that they are constructions of our imagination not the ontological reality.
So, in MY heaven there will be an Endless Summer with perfect waves, no sharks, no cut-ins, no wipeouts, and a Beach Boys soundtrack.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who wonders about this! :gen05
So many times I've thought about snow and how much I love it - how beautiful it is, how serene and clean, and how much I miss it (I grew up in a ski resort town in the mountains)--and I've actually upset myself to think that maybe it won't be there.
Then I chastise myself and remind myself that God delights in giving good gifts to His children...
But then I wonder about the night sky and how wonderfully glorious it is to go out, far from the city, and lie down and drink in the beautiful vastness and beauty of a huge black canvas covered in bright, twinkling stars...
According to the prevailing idea that the sun will always shine because it radiates from God's glory, neither snow nor the night sky will be present, which is a thought that I (to be completely honest) find upsetting.
So basically I don't know, but since I trust God to be as wonderful as always, I am having to constantly remind myself that if there is no snow and no night sky it will ONLY be because He replaces those things with something 100 times better. It doesn't always settle me, but it's the direction I think is right.

I've been thinking along these same lines lately. Since we will be perfected and glorified, perhaps it's just an issue of how we relate to the weather and not the weather (or other aspects of nature) itself.
So perhaps in our perfected bodies, snow will still be there, but it won't make us cold or cause frostbite if we lie down in it unclothed.
The sun won't burn our skin (something that sounds wonderful to me, as a very fair skinned, freckled person who can't enjoy things in the sun the way others do--I always go out in the summer slathered with chemicals, shirt, and a big nerdy hat to protect me from the sun).
We may be able to swim in the ocean without the possiblity of drowning- maybe finally see all the glorious things that live under the surface of the ocean without the problems of needing air or the proper pressure.
Yeah, that all sounds good to me. I'll go with that for now. :basic05

As I've read many posts on issues like post-modernism, I had no idea what everyone was talking about, but apparently, I are one!
Labels don't mean much to me one way or the other. We left the Nazarene church and are members of a huge independent church, Central Christian Church of the East Valley, here in Arizona. I do sometimes say (TIC), "We used to be Nazarenes, but now we're Christians."

Another feature of post moderns is that there is less brand name loyalty and the stubborn refusal to be categorised and systematised (including accepting that there is a category called post-modernism)

Still thinking on this subject, the Bible teaches that the earth itself changed as a result of sin. The ground was cursed and required "sweat" to produce food. So, it is likely that some aspects nature will be restored to a perfected state. Maybe the "thorns" can be seen as symbolic of the harsher aspects of nature. If so we can look forward to an earth in which the extremes will be tamed.
Just thinking....

Just the presence of Jesus will be enough and I really don't think snow will even cross our minds.

Yes, Joel. You must have forgotten that zillions of years ago, we went to the same Nazarene church as the Chapmans. Haven't seen them at Central, though. We have two campuses now and about 8 services every weekend between the two, averaging 500-1200 at a service, so it's not difficult to see why we haven't run into them! Next time you talk with them, please tell them that the Karrs usually go to the 9:00 am service on the Gilbert campus. It would be great to see them again!

Actually, I'm not 100% sure they still go there. They bought a house in Queen Creek a few years ago and Mary teaches in a Christian school near there. They really liked Central Christian and even though they are farther away, they aren't too far, I don't think.

Maybe as we enter Heaven we will be asked, "Snow or No Snow section?" instead of "Smoking or Non-Smoking." LOL
Or maybe there are "vacation spots" where we are transported to snow country or surfing country.
All silliness, I know. I do think that if there is snow we will not get frostbite or be extremely cold. Laying down in the snow unclothed, someone said? Now, that is an interesting concept. LOL
I just believe there is no need of the sun, because Jesus is the light. There are no tears of sorrow, no more pain.
I would enjoy a snowball fight with Peter and would enjoy making "snow angels" with the angels.

I'm not an expert when it comes to prophecy and I don't know any Greek (except for one who owns a restaurant in Oskaloosa) so I usually have to depend on what I hear from others. I've heard that we aren't exactly going to get a mansion but a fairly large area. I'm sure our area will be what ever is perfect to each us. I wouldn't want snow all the time and I could do without cold weather. Actually, I'm not too picky about what Heaven is going to be like. I probably won't be home very much. There are so many people I want to see. I have no doubt that I will be thrilled with what ever God has prepared for me there. Besides, an old chicken coop in Heaven will be better than anything in the "other" place.
