This morning, the sun was shining! So I had to go out and take pictures in the area where I live.

Lovely Hans..I am from an Oklahoma City suburb, where there was
also a lovely winter storm totally covering the trees.
However the trees were eternally damaged, a massive number of trees, huge limbs broke from the weight of the ice and trunks split down to the ground. I have a beautiful huge tree in my back yard that will have to be totally removed. It was a total loss. Folks from OKC tell me (i am still here in CA) that once the lovely ice melted, it left such damage to the old lovely trees and Oklahoma City literally looks like a war zone.
So not sure how the trees in you photos survive the winter, unless this in your photos is just snow, and not ice.
BTW be careful when you are out and about taking photos in the winter

here is a short article about devastating Mr.Winter in the midwest
Trees and power lines in some states were brought down by inch-thick ice accumulations, which closed roadways and left thousands in need of emergency assistance from federal, local and state agencies.600,000 folks were out of power
still have about 50,000 without power two weeks after the storm

Hans,
In some photos the vegetation look like they are covered in heavy frost, while many of the trees look like they are covered in ice. Did you have an ice storm or is this frost? I love the image of the trees leaning over the canal and one can see "slide" marks where people have been walking on the ice (the first in your second set of images). It is beautiful! I also love the color of early morning sunlight.
Do you still ride your bike to work in weather this cold? Our family was watching a TV show a few weeks ago called The Amazing Race, the people racing had landed in Rotterdam and had to complete some tasks before moving on. One task was to go to a multi-story parking garage (for bikes) and look for two that were specifically marked. I was shocked by the number of bikes in that garage!! Then they had to ride a bike with a large bucket (?) or basket in the front (carrying their partner in it) to a small village outside the the city. It was fun. Anyways, we were thinking of you when we saw that episode.

Mr. Deventer:
This Arizona gal is just thrilled to the core to see these pictures and so moved by them. I don't want to live in the cold, I love looking at pictures though. Thank you so much. Now on for a cup of hot chocolate and nosh.
Blessed Christmas to you and Mrs. Deventer.
Prayers for you both,

As explanation: we've had very, very mild snow, together with frost. And that's what created this beauty. No ice storm or some such, the trees will survive this just fine. BWT, most of it is gone by now, temps are above zero today, so above freezing, and will be for the coming days. Also, as you can see, the sun broke through today and melted away the snow/ice.
That's why I went out early this morning.

As long as it's dry, yes. I can dress for the occasion :basic03
