is another feature of sports that has changed over the years. When I was first involved with football there was no face guard on helmets, more broken noses and facial injuries. Another is the spring loaded basketball rims where the rigid ones when hung on to by a slamdunker broke the whole backboard and the game had to be stopped until a new one could be installed. Don't remember hearing of any game having to go half court because another one was not available.
