I loved the first movie. Kind of like a modern day Indiana Jones. I am not really a big fan of Nicolas Cage -- too brooding usually. But, I love his Gates character. Is all of the history accurate -- no, but then what story ever really is?
We are introduced to the basic premise rather quickly, the Gate's heritage and family name is at risk. Cage must defend his Great-Grandfathers name and has to unravel historical clues to do so. Gates (Cage) quickly reassembles the cast from the first movie and we are led off on the chase quickly. From the Resolute Desks to Mount Rushmore -- and a few stops in between, like the French sister-statue of Liberty in Paris, we are led on a journey through history to find the information to clear the family name.
I don't want to give spoilers, so, I will stop at just saying, if you loved the first one, I think the second one is not far behind. A little far-fetched? Yes, but, it is Hollywood. If we want reality, we can go outside, for entertainment, the movie is good!

Saw this one with the family over the holiday. It was enjoyable, better than I expected. I was amazed to see the number of big names added to the cast: Helen Mirren and Ed Harris, etc.
It was also nice to see that they've set themselves up for another edition. Let's hope the low first week box office receipts don't keep that from happening.

They hit #1 in box offices this weekend!
This is definitely the best sequel ever! And in holding with the original, there is very little junk in it :) 10 stars :) 20 stars. A MILLION STARS!!!

Our whole family went out to see this movie a couple of weeks ago...and loved it! Of course, we are all history freaks!
Even though, as mentioned above, not all the historical "facts" were true, but I did like how they included lots of history in the story. I was surprised that the movie depicted John Wilkes Booth going into a pub just prior to the assassination of Lincoln. This is a true fact where some think the JWB was drinking some "liquid courage" prior to his act. I also enjoyed how the movie took the watcher to many different interntational locations where clues were to be found. This is excellent in showing that the U.S. does not stand alone and has always needed international ties. Of course, the British might not like the point brought out that the Queen/British Govt. supported the Confederate cause (for economic benefits).
I also like that the bad guy (Ed Harris) turns out to be a good guy. In the first movie, the bad guy starts out good, but then strays in to illegal activity. The current movie shows the bad guy sacrificing for his "friends." It is a good lesson.
Of course, it is very unlikely that the protagonists could get into the Queen's personal office AND the Oval Office without being thrown in prison...but this is Hollywood!
Our whole family enjoyed the movie. My friend's family (including 2 H.S. boys) said it was better than the first one. Well, I don't know about that, but they are BOTH good movies. Lots of action, a little romance, history, and beautiful locations. What's to dislike?

I love the irony behind a lot of movies.
In this one, I thought it was neat that Nicholas was in the Queen's office at Buckingham Palace, and Helen Mirren -- who played his mother in this movie -- played the Queen in "The Queen."
One geographical question I had though (because I'm originally from Maryland). I thought it strange that the Maryland State Police stopped Jon Voight's character from fishing near Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon is in Virginia. It IS on the Potomac River, across from Maryland, but it's VERY wide there, and I thought it odd that Cage could scuba from the Maryland side, or that the Maryland police were patrolling the Virginia shoreline.
But I LOVED the movie!!!!

I just saw this movie and I am not going out on a limb when I state it was a enjoyable movie to watch. I wonder if page 47 of the book of secrets wasn't revealed so a script could be written for a 3rd movie. The National Treasure movies are big money makers so that would be incentive for a 3rd movie. I believe the light humor and invincibility of the main characters adds to the great script to make a entertaining movie. Though I am not sure if anyone in their right mind would kidnap the President of the United States.

He didn't kidnap him, remember? The President got lost in the tunnels and Nicolas Cage's character helps him out. ;)
I really enjoyed the movie.

I enjoyed this movie very much. It did not seem to have as many clues and action as the first one, though.
I, too, believe that movie no. 3 will be based on Page 47 of the "President's Book."
LOL
