What a wonderfully fun game. Ford field and the blocks around it are a wonderful venue for football and baseball. But I think the attititude is a bowl game is a bowl game is a bowl game.

Rumor has it that the central coach is in line for the job at West virginia. He was an offencive assitant there for several years.

In Boise, Coach Peterson, is rumored to have been contacted by West Virginia as well.

Reported that Coach Jones of Central is going for his second interview so I would have to believe he will get the West Virginia job and we will hopefully get to keep Coach Pete.

I hope you do to, Jim...really, honest, I do. It's got to be tough to be a fan of a "proving ground" program, where coaches 'show their stuff' and then bolt for the Pac 10 or the Big 12 or the SEC. I'd like to see you guys find someone like June Jones, who appears perfectly content in Hawaii, and isn't waiting for some BCS school to come calling.

As I well know, Idaho is not for everyone. But, for certain people, it's ideal. I have a good friend from PA who grew up here and graduated from Penn State and eventually got a PhD in nuclear physics (really). He lived in Pocatello for a long time and a few years ago had a chance to come back to this area at a substantial increase in salary. He flew back east for a series of interviews, accepted the position, went back to Idaho, looked around, talked with his wife, and called them the next day and backed out. After more than ten years, that was home.

He has since moved on to the Tri-Cities area, but that's basically the same as Idaho, from what I understand. So, somewhere out there, I'm sure there's a football coach who would love to spend his career in Boise. Hopefully Peterson is your guy.

Well Bruce, as you know, mid-majors play some pretty good football. That good old Big 12 school Oklahoma got beat by one last year. :laughing

Well Bruce, as you know, mid-majors play some pretty good football. That good old Big 12 school Oklahoma got beat by one last year. :laughing

Flukes happen. As I've said elsewhere on these boards, Oklahoma believed their own press; they thought BSU was not a legit Top 10 football team; and Stoops did not have them ready to play a top-quality opponent in that game. That's not trying to take anything away from Boise State.

But as I've also said, and still believe, superior athletes win in college football MOST of the time. Ohio State got embarrassed last year because they simply did not have athletes that could match up with Florida. If last years Fiesta Bowl is played ten times, Oklahoma wins at least eight of those match-ups.

And for what it's worth, comparing Central Michigan to Boise State - or the MAC to the WAC, for that matter - is like comparing a Kia to a Jaguar. They're both cars. That's about where the commonalities stop.

Greg Farra
29th December 2007, 03:43 PM (15:43)
Well Bruce, since scholarships have been limited, these mid-majors all have a lot of good athletes. Guys that used to get stockpiled at the big schools now go elsewhere.

And as far as OSU having inferior athletes, thats bs (bruce smack). They send as many big, fast guys to the pros as anyone. The pros would not be drafting these guys if they were as bad as you seem to think.

And they don't play 10 times. They get ONCE. You want a real championship? Play them up north, or in Big 12 country in January. That may level it up. I'm sure OU, Nebraska, OSU, UM or Wisconsin would be happy to host.

Greg,

If you watched the BCS championship game last year and could not see that Florida clearly had better athletes than OSU, then there's nothing more I can say. When something so evident is still denied, it's a matter of thinking with one's heart instead of one's head, and that's a truth-killer every time.

Bruce,

They got outplayed and outcoached. You have totally ignored the fact that OSU sends as many big, fast guys to the pros as anyone, so you are the one in denial. It's been fairly obvious that you have some obsessive hatred of the Big Ten, so any rational discussion with you is fruitless. If and when you'd like to stop acting like a fifth grader, I'll talk.

Bruce Carriker

Don't take it personal...in my experience I have never found a Big 12 fan without a chip on their shoulder. I always wonder why they feel they have to try to convince the rest of us that they are the best if they really are the best

Steve,

Well, I have tried to communicate some things, such as the absurdity that OSU is slow. They don't send all those guys, especially receivers and cornerbacks to the NFL if they're not fast. But some people are so stuck in their opinions they deny reality.

I would happen to agree, though, that the Big 10 has not been the premier conference in football for a long time. It's become more of a basketball power than football.

I do think that the Big 12 is pretty good in football. So's the SEC. I'm just a college football fan. I'm used to watching the Bucks come up a bit short, although they did upset defending champ Miami in 2002.

If somehow we do lose again, I'm not going to cry in my milk. I enjoy my sports, but since I'm not strapping on my helmet and lining up to play, it's beyond my control.

No one gave Michigan much of a chance against Florida today. It was good to see the Maize and Blue win Lloyd's last game. Hart's fumble nearly cause me near cardiac failure, but then I remembered...IT'S JUST A GAME!!!

You were saying that Oklahoma didn't prepare properly for Boise but aren't willing to give Ohio the same benefit?

Golly Ghee - Michigan - unranked was able to beat Florida - ranked 12 this year even with the HT winner.

For me, the Michigan/Florida game revealed more about Urban than many thought -- no adjustments. Florida continued to make the same mistakes and showed no ability to work things out on the field. Michigan attacked and that is not what they expected, and Myer never could either formulate a change, or communicate it. Both are coaching responsibilities.

Legend has it is because many of the football players were spending so much time in remedial classes where there were learning "The Ohio State University is located in Columbus, Ohio, please put me on a bus back to there" -- it just became natural to say it that way. Unfortunately, their introduction always gets cut short and they are reportedly getting frustrated from never completing their sentence... which in some states is an entirely different subject -- sentences....

Actually, it is The Ohio State University -- go to their website, it is clearly part of their identity -- at least they get it right.

Plus, they show more literate than University of Miami people who say "The U" because they cannot pronounce and/or spell University.

I am not all that interested in Big 10 football, but I've always enjoyed Big 10 basketball, especially Indiana. I was pleased when I saw that my Dish Network has added the Big 10 channel. Last night I watched Indiana narrowly get past Iowa.

To tell the truth, I miss the Bobby Knight days with the Hoosiers. He's not my favorite person, but he is an awesome coach. Last night as I watched Indiana they seemed so undisciplined compared to the past. Lots of running and gunning, more playground style.

Still, it was just one game and it appears I'll get to see more of them now. My opinion might change.

Now Mike - I did put the "the" in front of my alma mater - I was taught good. I just didn't capitalize it or put it in all caps because I didn't want to seem too pretentious.

I do love the way Mike V. says it when he introduces himself on the rare pro game I bother watching.

They also are not just the Ohio State marching band. They by their own doing referr to them as the best darn band in the land. I think they might be trying to overcompensate for a feeling of inferiority.

If they had some woodwinds I'd agree with you - however brass players typically have no problems with inferiority - over inflated egos maybe but never inferiority. Also they tend to appreviate it to TBBDITL so as to not cause inferiority complexes in those other poor bands that do have lowly woodwind players.

Welcome to Naznet. We can do all sorts of things with stats, can't we? The trick is to just enjoy the games, forget past history, and realize that although sports are fun, they're not all that important in the grand scheme of things. And since none us here are probably going to lace up our cleats, put on some pads and line up to play, things are beyond our control!

Being that I am humble and being born in the South in a small town in Louisiana Baton Rouge would you like to re word that .? I think they draft them because they feel sorry for them , they the players you talk about are want a be football players . Ohio State has played a SEC TEAM 9 times in a Bowl game and is 0-9 , they are out played , and out coached. It has to do with the teams they play each week , it is a war zone in the SEC Vandy could do well up north , .YOU WANT A REAL CHAMPION LSU

They knew what LSU was going to do. So I guess LSU was just stronger and faster after all. 9? You're delusional. Ohio State played the SEC champion and lost by 14. Vanderbilt lost to 3 non-champion teams by 14 or more. I'm not sure how you can say Vanderbilt has done better.
