I never install the cd that comes with a camera. I let windows find a driver etc then when I insert my SD card I go right to my computer and find the card and then work with the pictures from there. I get frustrated trying to get from point a to point b with a zillion different steps in between lol

I am curious how you download and manage your photo files.

I plug the camera into the USB and it automatically becomes a drive. I can download by copy and paste or cut and paste or copy and delete. Standard USB cable. I am using a Cannon camera.

I use a program called Capture One.

I only shoot RAW format to get the most from my camera. Capture One allows me to make any adjustments required while the file is still in it's RAW format, which means that any adjustments I make don't degrade the image.

This is a professional tool, so the price is steep... but there is nothing that can compare.

Terri,

For my Canon, I use a "card reader" where I insert my memory card. Then I just save to my hard drive. On my Sony point and shoot, I use my USB cable and download to my hard drive.

After downloading, I take a stroll through photoshop and then burn a CD.

I just plug my camera into the computer too. But only since I got XP (and now Vista). You couldn't do that with any of the windows operating systems earlier than XP. I loaded my camera's software the other day, but I still don't use it!

Me too. Then I chose from several programs to edit my photos depending on what I want to do. I mostly use Google Picasa for general editing. I do any repair work, cloning and resizing with an old program called Ulead Photo Express 2.0 but it doesn't work as well with Windows XP. I have some other programs but I don't use them much.
