Ok..officially the first January quote was posted by Joel, but, since he is obviously incapable of keeping with the program, I am going to start off the thread here -- although, in fact, Joel may be less inclined to stick with the program just to annoy me since I have an ordered mind fool of chaos....
Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems. ~~ Rene Descartes
I took philosophy back in college. The final exam had an essay component where we had to write an essay about Descartes' Meditations on the First Philosophy statement that life can be a dream -- I wrote what was probably a poor essay. I was as excited about Philosophy in college as I am about watching MTV today. I remember closing out my essay with the to me profound statement, "If life is a dream, this class has been a nightmare." For this wonderful insightful commentary, my professor rewarded me with a "B" -- I thought in retaliation for my comment, looking back, he probably gave me credit for the comment, for my insight into philosophy otherwise was probably at best barbaric. Funny, today I sit and read Plantinga, Descartes, and Kant -- have I gone mad? I also go and buy $3+ cups of coffee, and bottled water -- surely this must be a dream.

I wonder if the Crew-cuts had philosophy class too?
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream, sweetheart
(Hello, hello again, sh-boom and hopin' we'll meet again)

Once, I wrote an essay on Rene Descartes'. I think it was in Math for elementary school teachers. Was he the father of analytical geometry? I think he was.

I googled him, and yes, it does appear that is credited to him. While I loved geometry in school, I hated philosophy -- seems my past has caught me.:fun03

First some housekeeping -- Marg -- was there something in yesterday's quotes that moved you to prayer specifically? Or just praying for me in general -- because I surely can use it!
Then, we have today's offerings:
The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people.
- GK Chesterton
Did I once live near GK?
There is no moral precept that does not have something inconvenient about it.
- Denis Diderot
Now that is an inconvenient truth!
There is only one difference between a madman and me. I am not mad.
- Salvador Dali

A rare find -- another quote that is deserved of quoting:
Artificial Intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.
~~ Unknown
Unknown is far wiser and more often quoted than Known....

Billie , hit the wrong icon . With the word gone ( thanks ) you have to be more alert . Last Friday I sent out a prayer request for our prayer chain and somehow 4 copies went out to almost everyone . Still listed as only once in my sent file . Rick , our associate pastor ( unpaid ) said it didn't hurt him to pray multiple times for the request and seeing as a similar request from the same person was received again today , there's even more truth in it . Any way its the way I intended it now though I'll breathe a word of prayer for you just the same .

Illegal aliens have always been a problem in the United States. Ask any Indian.
~~ Robert Orben
Couple of hundred years and here we are ... who says history does not repeat itself? Would the Aliens in Area 51 be illegal, or do you think they have applied for citizenship by now? They technically may not have crossed a border, unless we assume that borders extend along a vertical plane into infinity.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. -- Herm Albright
Not the most honorable goal, but, it is amusing -- didn't Bill the Bard say all the world is a stage? Then again Maximus from Gladiator did enquire, "Do I not entertain you?" Of course, that line is so much better when shouted by a gladiator in an arena who is holding a sword after just slaying a couple of others.
