Am thinking about purchasing an external hard drive - just for back-up/safety purposes - for Christmas.
Any suggestions on makes and models?
Any that I should AVOID purchasing????
Thanx

Nelson, we have a huge Seagate external USB hard drive at KJIC -- 200 gigs. For back up purposes, it works just fine. I think we paid around $175 for it.

Wow.. you are really going hi-tech these days.
A new e-mail account with a very fast connection.
A new external hard drive.
Are you getting a new laptop, too?
I'm impressed, Sir Nelson.

I bought a Maxtor hard drive for a computer I used to have. It didn't last very long. Since then I have heard several people say that they aren't very good.

I've had good experiences with Maxtor drives over the years. I currently have an internal one in my Dell. I've had the most problems with Seagate and Western Digital drives. I've got three dead hard drives in my shop at the moment -- a WD, Quantum and a Seagate.

WOW!
Thanx, Adam
I took the 100 gig back and exchanged for 200 gig.
Should I keep it?

I think I will!
It's my current plan - after opening Christmas Day - not sure I'll get it up and running Sunday, but Mon at the latest - is to back up the entire hard drive of my computer EVERY day - by leaving it plugged in and just hitting the "one touch" button every night.
How's that for a plan, Adam?

I think I'm kind of late responding to this... but all I did was buy an external case that plugs into my USB port and I can put whatever size internal hard drive I want into it. In a matter of minutes I can change the hard drive in the case if I want. Found this to be significantly less expensive than buying a ready-made external hard drive.
