Thanks all for your comments about the Christian Alternative band known as Skillet. After doing a little research I have to say I disagree with most of your replies. After listening to about 40 or so of their songs, I cannot find ONE original song of theirs that has any overtly Christian lyrics. I did listen to their Ardent Worship album, which has them singing worship songs written from other sources that was overtly Christian. (Doesn't count, not original) My problem with the group is this: EVERY song I heard them sing on their albums can be contrued 2 different ways. For instance if they were to say "I know you'll never leave me in the night" (This is an example only) I cannot assume that they are talking about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because they won't say so! In fact it is more than a little bothersome to me that they, as well as many other artists in the Christian genre, seem to go out of their way to avoid the "true meaning" of their lyrics. Before all you fans come unhinged at the sprocket, let me say that I believe they are musically strong, but lyrically weak. I actually really enjoyed their beat, and musical presentation, which is a lot coming from a 39 year old bald guy. But I also know a little about music, and from what I say my conclusion is this: I would rather have my loved ones listening to music that OVERTLY gives Christ the praise. (Christ was pretty overt himself.) It's better than listening to the secular equivalent, with the cursing and blasphemy but I won't be looking for Skillet to bring my loved ones closer to the Lord. Now the gauntlet is thrown out. Feel free to respond with your opinions, and or lyrical proof (if you can understand them.)

That is one type of music, i had to learn to accept, and still feel that the person singing loved the Lord. But, we can try the spirits.
i usually cannot even understand what our son and his friends are saying, most of the time, when we hear them sing. But, I know our son, and know that he loves the Lord.

I'm admittedly no expert, but I always figured groups that had lyrics like that did it to try and get listeners who would otherwise not listen to a Christian band. I see them as a kind of gateway band for the people out there who feel like Christian music would be preachy. If they listen to Skillet, because it's not preachy at all, then it would be a small step into listening to other Christian groups with a similar music style but a stronger Christian message.
