View Full Version : Where Faith & Politics Meet, a holiness sermon by Rev. Adam Hamilton

I'm sure I've referenced Rev. Adam Hamilton around here before. I believe he probably has more impact as a preacher than any other in the Wesleyan branch of Christianity (I guess Willimon could be said of this as well...I don't know). Rev. Hamilton pastors the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection just outside Kansas City.
He preached this message last week: Where Faith and Politics Meet. You can watch the sermon by clicking here (http://www.cor.org/worship-sermons/sermons/show/sermons/Where-Faith-and-Politics-Meet/). There's also an MP3 download available at the same link, if you prefer.
Without transcripting the sermon, I'll just say that this message draws distinct connections between politics and holiness. If you have the time, I'd encourage you to watch it in light of the ongoing US presidential races.
(Moderators: I struggled with where to place this thread. I would not be offended if it were moved. It could fit under General Discussion, Theology, or Current Events...)

Jeremy,
Greetings!
I was at Hamilton's church this past Sunday (1/13) and heard the next sermon in the series. It is worthy of your time.

Thanks, Mike. I was planning on watching/listening today. What took you to KC? Are you part of Beeson?

I'm currently at NTS for D.Min program, taking a class with Mike Lodahl and Ron Benefiel. We went to Church of the Resurrection, Sheffield Family Life Center (Assembly of God), Jacob's Well, as well as KC Rescue Mission in our class on Wesleyan Theology for Ecclesiology.

I should have remembered that.
Ah, yes, Sheffield Family Life. I remember watching the pastor's live television show sometimes on Saturdays. It's basically a call-in show where people can call up and ask questions, mostly about the Bible. Every once in a while, he'd get a call from someone with a blatantly tough question, or a question intended to set him up (i.e.: "There are no examples of being stricken with the spirit in the Bible, so how can we even try and practice it today?").
I always had a feeling that these calls were from NTS students.

Jeremy,
George Westlake still has his TV show, but did you know that he's turned over the pastorate of the church to his son?

The father preached yesterday.
Certainly a different experience as compared to Church of the Resurrection.

I just watched it...
Wow...I think I might return to listening to him every week again.

Wow. This second one (http://www.cor.org/worship-sermons/sermons/show/sermons/Christ-Christians-and-the-Culture-Wars/) might be even better. And to think, I drive by this place a couple times a week for work and I've only been once.

Mike
How did you like the mission in light of the topic of the class.
