Aletha Hinthorn has a series of 4 books, one of which is Boldly Asking. The first one is Simply Trusting, I believe, and is a very simple introduction to prayer and faith.

Boldly Asking is subtitled; "Deepening your walk with God through prayer." And the subtitle of Simply Trusting is "Deepening wour walk with God through faith."

Each book in the series is a discussion/study series. Each person can have their own book to write in and use, but when I taught both books in a ladie's Bible study, I just used the book as my teacher's guide. There are 8 chapters in each book, but each chapter is so loaded with scriptures and discussion questions that it takes longer than one session per chapter.

My audience in primarily men. Would it be a good fit?

Who is the publisher?

It is published by NPH and Aletha Hinthorn is a Nazarene. These books are not for women, but for everyone. She is the founder of Women Alive Ministries, but these books doe not address women, just Christians.

You can get them individually or as a set.

I am doing Joyfully Following this year.

They are great studies.

Usually what I've read/heard from Chuck Smith [that's who you meant, I'd guess, but your fingers took over & typed a more familiar word than "Chuck" ;)] is straight ... understandable ... decent. [yeah, I defected from the Naz Church for awhile when in California, & went to his church for a good while, once I moved closer to the beach, as that would've been quite a trek back up to the Anaheim church I'd been going to at first]

Anyway, what Chuck Smith has always done, it appears, is go through the entire Bible, rather than jumping here & there ... very orderly ... and he's not far out, pentecostal, a tongues-speaking dude, or anything like that [the "forbid not, seek not" stance of the C&MA seems to be his, as he's said he does not, tho' he has a pastor or two on staff who does (not pushed on people), since they're a rather large community with many pastors.]

Other than this commentary on the author you mentioned, the books that come to mind are Stormie Omartians, definitely written for certain folks in particular it seems, such as, "The Power of a Praying Wife," "....a Husband," et cetera. Well, you get the idea, tho' I think she may have a later one for anyone in general that I've not read.

For an excellent foundational book on prayer, written from a solid Wesleyan perspective, check out:

"Living the Lord's Prayer" by Morris Weigelt and E. Dee Freeborn, published by Nazarene Publishing House in 2001. ISBN: 083-411-903X
David Felter wrote a leader's guide you would find helpful. ISBN: 083-411-9420

And what better prayer for baby Christians to learn/study than the pattern taught by Jesus to his disciples?

Blessings!

I have two books about prayer that I really like - the first is Prayer: A Holy Occupation by Oswald Chambers and the second is A Journey Into Prayer by Evelyn Christenson. The book by Oswald Chambers has some thought provoking questions on just about every page that would be great for group discussion. The back cover of A Journey Into Into Prayer says - Journey with Evelyn Christenson as she guides you through the gateway of prayer into God's presence. Discover the wonders that unfold as you

~ learn how to prepare for prayer
~ clarify your motives in prayer
~ establish prayer's priority in your life
~ understand how God answers prayer
