BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC-TV MyFoxAL.com) -- Bronner Burgess, the youngest child of Rick and Sherri Burgess, drowned Saturday evening after falling into a swimming pool.

Rick Burgess is co-host of the nationally syndicated "Rick and Bubba Show." His wife is Sherri Burgess, and he is father to four other children, Brandi, Blake, Brooks, and Brody.

Burgess, who often speaks of his faith on the radio show, was a guest speaker over the weekend at a Christian retreat in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for high school students. He flew home as soon as he received the call about Bronner's death.

"He was real energetic, just a beautiful child," said Shades Mountain pastor the Rev. Danny Wood. "He was kind of a mama's boy in the sense that he was really attached to Sherri (Burgess). He was a very healthy child. He was a typical boy."

The family's pastor said he spent time with the Burgess family Sunday.

"The death of a child, it's very difficult but they have a great strength because of their faith in Jesus Christ," Wood said.

This message was posted on the Rick and Bubba Show Web site Sunday:

"We ask that you bathe Rick, Sherri and the entire Burgess family in prayer as they deal with the loss of their youngest son, Bronner Burgess. We all are grieving together in this terrible loss.

"The Burgesses want to give all Honor and Glory to God for the many blessings He has given us, especially the life of Bronner Burgess. And while we do not understand, we know who is in charge and His will be done in life and in death."

Bronner would have been 3 in May. Please keep this family in your prayers.

oh, how tragic. Was it mentioned if the swimming pool had been drained and covered? Praying for this family.
