This morning, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a man entered a local parochial elementary school, shot and stabbed his wife in front of the students. No children were injured. The teacher is in critical condition in a Columbus hospital.

Mark and I happened to be downtown this morning and drove right by the school before we had heard the knews. We have been running errands this morning and only just found out many of the details. The school is on the same property of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and across the street from Cornerstone United Methodist Church, so there were many pastors and staff on hand to help out with the children, parents and school staff.

Cindi,
When I left home today it was on the Cinncinnati news channel that the
police were surrounding a home in Portsmouth where the man was thought to be who shot his wife. They said there had been another shooting reported earlier that was probably related to the same man. Nothing was mentioned about a stabbing. They also said it happened on the front steps of the school. Have you heard anymore?

He stabbed his wife's mother-in-law before heading towards the school. He stabbed and shot his wife inside the classroom with some children hiding in the coatroom listening to what had happened. From what I have heard, it did not happen on the school steps...this is the first time I have heard that.

How sad......and so close to home.
I'm sure it will be on the 6:00 News. You are probably right.
By the time it reached the media it was probably very innocently misinterpreted.

Cindi,
I just noticed that the husband of the teacher, killed himself during the stand-off with the police.
How sad for those children to have witnessed this. I hope there will be plenty of counselors on hand for those who need help dealing with the trama.

They are having some sort of community prayer service at St. Mary's Church in Portsmouth tonight, and had a schedule for those who want to talk to the counselors as well.

we have had the awful tragedy here in Tinley Park, Illinois of the murder of 5 women, in which the murderer, an Afro-American entered a Lane Bryant clothing store, herded 6 women into a back room by gunpoint, duck taped their mouths shut and also duck taped them all together after making sexual advances towards one of them. Then 5 of them were shot in the head, but the sixth woman survived because the bullet went through her neck, and she played dead until he left, then called 911.
This is five mins from where I work, and I have to use that exit every day. It hits me every time I go by that store, (you can see it from the exit) at a new strip mall that just opened a year ago. I could go on and tell you some sad stories about the lives of these women, it is so heartbreaking.

You just never know when your time will come.
It is a shame that the world had gotten so bad.
I am just so horrified when Children have to be involved .
