Dana told me in an e-mail that you have to be disciplined to work successfully from home. I now know what she means!

I have to be careful not to wear the same jeans and sweatshirt all week.
I have to remember to take a break to shower!
I get to walk the dog every afternoon. (I swear she knows when Judge Joe Brown comes on, we're going for a walk!)
I have to remember to keep track of the time I spend on each project.
Sometimes I get paid to call my hubby on the phone, since he's my primary contact on most of my projects.
It would be easy to be distracted by personal e-mail and internet stuff (like NazNet).

But I LOVE IT!

I'm chuckling as I read this post because I just posted in the main board about being so happy to get all the church admin stuff out of my home office and into the church.

I've always been able to accomplish a lot at home but I've never been too good about working during set hours at home. So, for example, I would end up working on Sunday's power point on Saturday.

So for me, working from home isn't the best. But I am thrilled it is working for you. If you are disciplined to set the hours and work at your projects during those hours it is WONDERFUL! And I bet your dog loves it too!

Actually, I don't stick to specific hours. I do most of my work during a normal workday, but if Dennis is watching something on TV (like the Super Bowl) that I'm not interested in, I can work during those hours, too, without having to dress and go to an office. I'm just trying to keep my hours to no more than a standard work week so I don't burn out.

Usually, my day consists of:

Work for 45 minutes
Take a break
Work for 30 minutes
Throw in a load of laundry
Work for 45 minutes
Put laundry into dryer
Work for 30 minutes
Have lunch
Etc., etc., etc.

You get the picture. I really think that working this way is a great $ value for the company I work for. I stop my timer whenever I leave my desk, so they really ARE just paying me for the hours I actually work. There's an awful lot of wasted time in most offices IMHO.

So far, so good!

Paula -- sounds like my day!! Except that mine includes "give Lindsey Chemistry test" and such. Now it includes "go to cardiac rehab" or "go to the doctor" -- oh brother, I'll be glad when I don't have to see the inside of so many doctors' offices!! Followup, followup, followup!!

Anyway, I feel very blessed, indeed, to be working at home. Very blessed.

get to the office at 8:00
work until 4:30

I do have some downtime at work though.

The only thing I miss is human companionship. (Summer "thinks" she's human, but her speech is limited.) For the last four months, I was working about 8 feet from Dennis, and I got to see him all day, every day. We loved it! I do miss that.

But I am enjoying the flexibility of what I'm doing now. If I need to run an errand, I can do so without having to charge vacation hours for it. The flip side is that I don't get paid for sick time, though. Guess I'll just have to stay healthy!

For this time of my life, this is perfect. I feel blessed.

Hi to Mama!

I don't believe in reincarnation...but if I did I would think that many a wise human would come back as a dog. :-)

The running joke among those of us who regularly walk our dogs around the man-made lakes in our community is, "If there's such a thing as reincarnation, we want to come back as a dog living in Sun Lakes. There is NO better life!"

My youngest had strep throat 2 weeks ago. I asked the Fire Chief if it was possible to make up those hours. He stated that the DC of Training had some projects that needed to be done. It was great! I was able to work at home (all computer based projects) I worked around the girls' schedule, and it was great! I am glad you get that opportunity!

Judy, if my work consisted of taking care of sick, hurting, and bloody people, I think I'd feel the same way as you do. The biggest danger of seeing blood here is if I get a paper cut.
