I'm still in the middle of this book, but I must say it is great. It has reignited a fire and passion for God and a desire to chase after Him. It has changed my worship and my attitude toward worship. I recommend it.

my wife finished it last night. She's a notoriously fast reader. She once finished all seven of the Cronicles of Narnia in one week. However, it took her about six months to finish the God Chasers. She says it's too convicting to take in all at once. I'm not sure if that's an endorsement or not.

This is Denny's wife, Susan, posting under his name because I refuse to endorse the new style of naznet (haha).

But I just had to reply to anyone reading The God Chasers.

It is the most wonderful book I've read in a long time. Denny was wrong - I have one chapter to go and it's taken me almost a year to finish it. I can read about 1 paragraph and then I have to digest it for a few days to a few weeks to a few months until God tells me to move on. I don't want to miss a single thing in it!

It has changed my life!!! My brother recommended it because a few years ago he read it and it not only changed his life but it changed his church. It's not a book for everyone - you have to be ready to be convicted by God and not get angry, but be willing to change.

It has put a real desire for God in my heart - like the book says, suddenly I'm seeking His face and not His hand.

God is really leading me through this book, too. I'll put it down for a long time then one day have a strong desire to start reading again and the next section is always EXACTLY what I needed at the time. For example - I've always struggled with what is meant by WORSHIP. I mean, on a intellectual level I get it but I've never felt like I've participated in it - like I was mimicking it but not really getting it. I've prayed about it for a long time now - asking God to show me what true worship is, what it is like to worship in spirit and in truth. Last week at church during "worship" time all of a sudden I got it! I can't even describe to you how it was different - it just was - it was pure, and holy and Spirit led in my heart. I wasn't "trying" to worship, it was just pure spirit and truth. I even blurted out "I GET IT!". It was amazing! So the next day I pick up The God Chasers and the chapter begins with him describing what true worship is and I was reading it going 'Yes! That's exactly what I experienced!'.

I usually find copies of the book in the bargin bin at the book store and I always pick up a copy to give to someone. I'll know when someone reads it because they will either be offended and give it back or they won't be able to stop talking about it.

There is a great addition to it called "How to Be a God Chaser When You're a Kid Chaser" for busy parents.

So, this is an organized boycott, eh, gals!? ;) Yes, I noticed Linda did say
she didn't really like it. Then I noticed when you posted, Linda, that it
was as few words as possible ... or so it appeared. {ha}

But I just had to reply to anyone reading The God Chasers.

Haven't read it, but have wanted to. Have to look for it in those bargain
bins you've mentioned, since it used to be a lot, and the public library,
I'd guess, wouldn't have it ... most likely, anyway.

It is the most wonderful book I've read in a long time. Denny was wrong - I have one chapter to go and it's taken me almost a year to finish it. This is sort of how I read one certain book several years ago -- Chuck
Colson's "LOVING GOD" (the kind of book you'd read, so have you,
Susan?) -- and it's still one book, tho' I've read many since, that I'll
refer people to when they ask about "good books." It puts "loving God"
in "shoe leather" ... it's a "where the rubber meets the road" book.

It has changed my life!!!"

Now you've gone & done it, Susan ... will definitely have to look for this
book ... and, oh yeah ... Denny, thanks for bringing it up. ;)

PS * Now, this wasn't a "nothing" post, was it? ;)

Thank you for lowering yourself to our new NazNet style to let us know about the book's effect on you. I think I'll go buy it for my husband for a Christmas gift!

I also loved reading "God Catcher", too.

Hans, if you benefit from the God Chasers, you will probably want to follow that one with One Night With The King. Things said in there go very deep into the soul, too.

Blessings,

Hasn't Tenney been under fire for some of his supposed "anti-Trinitarian" views? I cannot comment, I just know I've read some things from his UPC days.

Perhaps these are old views ... and once a book's out there, it can't be recalled, so an author has to live with what s/he said in past days/years, whether they now agree with it or not? Hadn't heard anything so far anti-trinitarian from him.

And Edith, when you mention, "One Night With the King," it recalls to me having heard him [on TV] speak of this book ... there is some tho't-provoking stuff in it, it sounds like. Haven't seen it yet, but have heard about it; it's also being made into a movie now, I hear. [for anyone who doesn't know, this is re Queen Esther ... and, it sounds like, the application of the concepts bro't out in the book to our present-day lives.]

If you enjoyed The God Chasers, then I think you would enjoy a dip into A.W. Tozer's "Pursuit of God," which I think is a deeper work that impacted Mr. Tenney.

The Pursuit of God is a life-changing work in my life. I would read one chapter daily with my Bible each morning as our family was going through a spiritually shallow period at a church.

The Pursuit of God is one of those bargain bin books that I was able to pick up copies for everyone for $1.99 each. It does not deserve to be in the bargain bin, but like so many things of worth in life, only a few find them as they can be buried pearls.

I also enjoyed The God Chasers.
