Congratulations to Dr. LeBron Fairbanks, on being named Commissioner of Education.
A little known aspect of Dr. Fairbanks' career is that in the mid-1970s he pastored the Avon Grove church, where I currently serve. While he was only here for a few years, he and his wife Anne are still loved by all those who remember him.
It was my hope that, in coming to Avon Grove, my career would follow a similar trajectory. It has not.
Unfortunately, I failed to take into consideration a few minor details: intelligence, talent, leadership skills, and a winning personality.
Oh well.

I've only met Dr. Fairbanks once for a couple of days surrounding my grandfather's memorial activities at MVNU. He was very gracious to me and to our whole family during that time.
And while we're talking about numbers a lot around here...few have seen the increase in numbers while overseeing an organism in the CotN that Dr. Fairbanks did at MVNU.
I have also appreciated Dr. Fairbanks' predecessor. Dr. Jerry Lambert always took the time to seek me out at the seminary while I was living in Kansas City to see how we were doing. I also served with him as co-chair for NSLA. I didn't know he was retiring until I got the NCN News.

Dr. Jerry Lambert was the president of NBC when Mike and I were students there. He wsa very much loved and cherished by staff and students. His wife, Verla was my favorite teacher there. She always had an open door policy, she was available and loaded with wisdom.
The Fairbanks were at MVNU when our daughter was a student. Anne reached out to Jennifer and they still stay in contact with each other. They both are missed in Mt. Vernon.

Lebron certainly seems to be a great match, and he loves the international aspect of the church. I'm happy for him, and for the IBOE.

I was thrilled to read of the unanimous election of Dr E LeBron Fairbanks as the new Commissioner of Education for the Church of the Nazarene. Dr Fairbanks was the 2nd President of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in Manila, the Philippines (1984-1989) and was instrumental in recruiting me to APNTS - one of the very best decisions of my life. He secured the initial accreditation for APNTS. He will be a great advocate for the "international" church, and will be able to mentor the future leaders of the Church of the Nazarene.
I also want to express my personal appreciation to Dr Jerry Lambert. I always enjoyed my time with him over the years. He has always been such an encourager. I am impressed by his people skills and memory for people.

We had a fire at our church on 7 December 2007 and we have been tied up for the past 3 months or so. We re-open our sanctuary this Sunday. I've been working 100+ hours a week dealing with insurance company, assessors, builders, tradespeople etc. It will be worth it when we're finished. I hope to be more active again soon.
