... otherwise, I shut down to even get off-line the last few times. I didn't do anything differently, so not sure why the silly icon disappeared that used to show in my bottom task bar, could be clicked to find out the connection speed [usually about 31 kbps], the time [min/sec] on-line, and "disconnect" was there to be clicked on.
Now, I can find no "disconnect" to click. Where'd it go ... how do I get it back? THANKS!!

Can you go to START, then on the menu find a "Connect to the Internet" there, right click on it and click "create a shortcut" that will put an icon on your desktop? Or do it on ALL PROGRAMS?\

No, this wasn't anything on my desktop; anything there, actually, is a shortcut already to wherever the real connection is. I went to Control Panel, Internet [also Phone, Modem], and couldn't come up with anything, either, that puts that connection deal with all that info anywhere for one, either.
Bizarro! Thanks for trying to help ... hope someone comes up with something. Beginning to wonder what's going on here. ;)

in windows xp control panel, network connections, right click then properties of your connection, then click, show icon in notification area when connected.
should be something similar you can get to via cpanel, phone and modem or network connections.
should also be about same in other operating systems.
only other possibility I can think of is you run a piece of software just for those purposes and it messed up. fix by rerunning it?

Well, found that spot where it had a click-box for "show icon in notification area when connected." Guess what? It was already clicked. So, apparently something or other messed it up ... but, as said, it's back, so ... still a mystery, but won't worry about it, I guess, unless it happens again. ;)
Anyway, thanks!
