I signed up to have our number listed for no calls. Since then our calls have doubled. I think it is run by a part of the government who sells your number to help pay for Senators and House members to take trips.:laughing

We solved that problem by getting rid of our phone and only using cell phones. One time I got a telemarketer calling and when I told her she called a cell phone, it was like I had the plague; she couldn't get off the phone fast enough. There's big penalties for telemarketing calls to cell phones.

I have been getting spam on my text messaging part of the cell phone.

Jim -
You need to understand that the government has had to branch out - thus selling phone numbers. They used to, according to what one guy told me in a coffee shop one day, help the tobacco companies sell more cigarettes so more people would die of lung cancer and they wouldn't have to pay out so much in Social Security. But a bunch of 'health nuts' and Nazarenes foiled that scheme.
You may pass this information off as simple paranoia, but, when you come to understand how much THEY control us, you'll realize the truth and turn from your wicked ways of trying new schemes to get people to send you money so you can play golf all the time under the guise of controlling your cholesterol. (I just looked up and noticed how long that sentence was - I've GOT to stop reading Faulkner.)

Playing golf has health benefits but you have to know what you are doing. The idea is to lower your cholesteral without raising your blood pressure. Now when you play like I do that is not easy. In fact, it is not easy to keep your sanctification under control either.
I also have to fight off going pro. Now the Lord seems to help me with that; once I hit the ball it seems to be out of my control. Those Nazarenes who seem to be strong Calvinist would say it is in His control.

Tho' this thread's mostly humorous, they really do this [well, first it was addresses before phone #'s]. Not cool, I didn't think ... I mean, they get enough in tax $$, don't they? The only place how much of my junk mail could've gotten my name with my middle initial included is the driver's license bureau [called Sec of State here; DMV, etc, elsewhere]. Noticed that years ago. Not too cool for them to do that, but it's one of the most comprehensive lists one could buy anywhere, considering most people like to be independent and get their driver's license ASAP.

Or, Pauline letters. ha! [or, did Faulkner read Paul, and then you read Faulkner, and .... ? :laughing]

In regard to golf, God does, indeed, work in mysterious ways. First of all, the game is, as we know, of the devil. It causes one to see what isn't there and blithely walk right through that which is. Although I live within walking distance of an excellent course, I don't have time to play. I would spend all morning on the links and all afternoon talking to a shrink.
When I played, I spent relatively little time reflecting upon my spiritual condition - I was mostly preoccupied with retaining my sanity. I guess a golf course is, to some extent, a place of spiritual reflection. At least I've heard the Deity frequently invoked by some of the players. As to predestination and the golf ball, what did you seriously expect from a game that reputedly originated in Scotland?

We let this one go, but the idea that the government created AIDS to kill off African-Americans is just racist?
They both seem a bit irresponsible to me.

Hey, we're trying to talk politics and you start muddying the water with this 'responsibility' business.
