The Cherry Blossom fest opens tomorrow, March 29! The blossoming of the cherry trees around the Jefferson Memorial has come to symbolize the natural beauty of our nation's capital city. Hundreds of thousands of city residents and visitors from around the world come here to witness the spectacle!
The famous trees, a gift from Japan in 1912, signal the coming of Spring. I think I read that there are 12 different varieties of these blossoms.
Incidently, if you want a lapel pin, that celebrates this occasion, visit your local CVS Pharmacy. This pin depicts a single blossom and stem and has the year etched on the back!

Maybe we will go and see them tomorrow - that would be a fun outing :)

Think of us NazNetters who are too far away to do that, and have fun while you're there, too. Those of us who cannot get to DC will have to settle for maybe going to CVS [there's one about a whole 3 blocks away from here ;)] and check out those pins of which Bob told us. [thanks, Bob!]

I just remembered I have to set up at church tomorrow for a church dinner on Sunday.... :( Set up will probably be from 3-4:30 or 5pm... Going before set up isn't really an option... Maybe we can go afterwords... We shall see... The sun is up later this days....

I would recommend waiting - my son's friend is interning in DC and she said it is a bit crowded with all the visitors. They should be good for two weeks or so. So maybe next weekend?

As kids we would go on a school trip from Baltimore to Washington this time of year and it was always beautiful.
