sterotypes? how do you read them?

I got a haircut this morning and the lady who did it ask me if I get up early, then asked me if I read the newspaper every morning. A while ago I went to a restaurant and they asked me what slad dressing I wanted and I answered blue cheese, then she said "Oh and I imagine you want butter pecan ice cream for desert?" And I answered with surprise, "Yes, how did you know that?"
Am I missing something? Is it the age, or the look, or is there connections I dont see?
And do these things make me look old?
