I'd like to buy some good walking shoes that are not tennis shoes--shoes that will look nice when I drop into a nice restaurant.
Do you have any recommendations?

Naturalizer has some really good walking shoes that come in black and brown. I have worn them and when my feet are feeling particularly bad, wear them to church. Maybe it is my age, but I don't like wearing white athletic shoes when I am dressed up.

:-) I always feel funny in a dress and tennis shoes, especially the big clunky ones. Thanks. I'll go check out Naturalizers.

My mom likes Easy Spirit walking shoes. They come in several different styles, some dressier than others. I'm going to buy some pretty soon because I'm changing all of my dress shoes into lower heels these days. So, I thought I'd buy some to wear with pants. My mom has some that are really cute. Not at all dowdy looking.

The most comfortable walking shoes I have worn were "Joywalkers" from Foot Joy. Since this was 20+ years ago, I don't know if they still have them. I wore them all over the Cancun/Cozumel area and loved them.

When I was in a car accident and had a broken foot, my doctor reccommended that I purchase Rockport shoes after the cast was removed. . I bought some walking shoes and dress shoes ( low-Heels). The dress shoes were very comfortable. The Dr. Scholl's walking shoes for $20.00-$25.00 from Wal-Mart were more comfortable than any expensive pair I ever bought except for SAS.

I've always had a difficult time finding shoes. Even as a child mom would either have to take me to a specialty store or special order my shoes. I've tried Nike, Reebok, Hush Puppies (by far the worst money spent on a pair of "good" shoes), and such over the years. My all time favorites are Merrells. http://www.merrell.com/Gallery/NZ/Womens-Casual-Footwear/Slip-Ons.aspx
They have a great selection of hikers, which is what I've worn all winter long, but in checking out their web page, I see they have a nice line of women's casual shoes available as well. My brother is the one who introduced them to us. He's a nurse and spends much of the day on his feet. Mom will be 58 years old this year and has tried everything under the sun. One year for a present my brother bought her a pair of Merrell, and those are her favorite shoes hands down.
The're comfortable, they aren't tight on my feet, they don't burn my feet like many new shoes do, and they last. I've actually been wearing a pair of hikers my daughter grew out of about two years ago. They're my every day shoes, and although they're looking worn, they've got a good couple of years left on them.
I used to have problems with my back hurting from walking. I find it doesn't hurt when I wear the Merrells as it did when I wore the Hush Puppies. BTW... if I've spelled Merrell incorrectly, please forgive me... lol... I keep spelling the pastor's name....
Anyway, I don't think I could say enough to tell you how much I like their product. They're kind of pricey (at least not Wal-Mart cheap), but they're well worth the investment!!!! IMHO, it's worth the extra money to keep from having an aching back and aching feet each day.
