I received this question and thought our NazNet users might have some tips to share. How do you keep up with threads on NazNet?

I guess I am a novice in site navigation - BUT there is probably a simple way when I come to NazNet to find the Threads I have previously read and contributed to - Like the Article X Sanctification discussion - - How do I find it quickly? - and once I have done so is there a way to bookmark it ?

under the usercp link, threads you have replied to are shown
if you have subscribed to them. on by clicking on the left under subscribed threads.
yes you can bookmark threads like you would any webpage.

visited replied in links will be in ordinary font i believe until they
are replied to again then they go back to bold font.

I'm sure there are other ways but I'm least familiar with vbulletin
of the different board software out there.

I've found that the Naznet search function is useless. I use the Google search function on the side of the "Community" page to find what I'm looking for. There's no need to organize anything these days with Google around.

As for "keeping up", I imagine that I read only about 20-25% of all Naznet posts these days.

I like the subscribed threads function on usercp. I go through every once in a while and unsubscribe to threads I'm not interested in or have "died." You are automatically subscribed to all threads you reply to - or maybe that's just me. It may very well be a setting in your profile/options. But you can subscribe to a thread you have not responded to in the thread tools (at the top of each thread).

I use the Firefox browser with tabs and always have one tab open to my User CP. A simple refresh lets me know if there are new posts in any of the threads to which I have subscribed (either intentionally or, more often, by making a post in the thread).

I also keep a tab open to my profile. A refresh there lets me know about nonverbal responses to my own posts, such as thanks or smiles. However, I've found no way to reliably track down where those thanks and smiles have been added. I can also open from there a list of all of the posts I have made if I want to jump back to a thread in the fairly recent past. For older threads, I agree with Jeremy about using the Google search box.

I don't bookmark specific threads, but I do have a set of bookmarks for a few specific member profiles. Occasionally I'll nose around to see what threads those people have been involved in lately. (The bookmark format is: http://www.naznet.com/community/search.php?do=finduser&u=XXX where XXX is the profile number of the user.) That sometimes alerts me to threads that have totally slipped past me. (Thanks, Scott, for the info that opened that approach for me.)

I've found that looking at less inclusive views keeps me from losing so much time getting caught up by everything that's happening at NazNet today when all I really want to do is keep up with conversations in which I'm already involved. On the other hand, I found this thread by the method I try to mostly avoid in the interest of time management -- choosing "Today's Posts" under the Quick Links menu and skimming through the most recent threads with new posts. I prefer "Today's Posts" to "New Posts" because it also lists threads that I might have skipped last time I took a glance at the board but might want to catch up on this time.

Clearly, we have some folks who are good problem solvers!

I use my own version of the approach Marsha mentioned (it is described here: http://www.naznet.com/community/showthread.php?t=8803). I have a bookmark that checks for new threads, but excludes forums I am not especially interested in. When I come to NazNet, I use that bookmark. My first view of NazNet is that of new posts that have been added since my last update.

I scroll down through the new posts, reading what interests me, and then, before I move on, I hit the Mark Forums Read link so the process can start all over again my next visit.

My bookmark looks like this (you'll have to read the information in the link I provided to figure out what forums I ignore).

I use the short term memory option that comes standard in my family. I just forget what I have been involved with and that limits my conversations.

I use the "New Posts" link in the navigation menu.
