Saw in this morning news that Oklahoma and Northwest Louisiana had been visited by tornados which made me check your post as soon as I saw it. Glad you're ok for another day of ministering to those who need your healing expertise. I, too, have spent time in the bottom of a closet while the TV out on the table was telling of a tornado down at Wiley Post just a short ways from where we lived on 59th in Warr Acres. Glad you are safe hope Edith, the Bolarjacks and the Williams are also all safe and any others there.

These storms were not near Bethany or Warr Acres
I live in Edmond..and they are about 20miles west of me

The funnels hit or tracked a mile west of me
and also on Danforth and Kelly I am sorta in between
and surprisingly there is no damage here to my property...as
these storms rate this was not as serious as could have been

thanks for asking

Judy

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORMAN OK
MON MAR 31 2008

THE TORNADO APPEARED TO HAVE DEVELOPED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF NW
178TH AND PENNSYLVANIA AT APPROXIMATELY 139 AM. THE TORNADO CAUSED
MOST OF ITS DAMAGE IN THE VALENCIA NEIGHBORHOOD. IT WAS HERE THAT
MANY HOMES SUSTAINED ROOF…WINDOW…GARAGE DOOR AND FENCE DAMAGE.
ONE HOME SUSTAINED ESPECIALLY HEAVY DAMAGE…WITH A LARGE PORTION OF
THE ROOF BEING LOST AND EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF THE HOME.
THE TORNADO CONTINUED NORTHEAST AND APPEARED TO HAVE DISSIPATED JUST
NORTHEAST OF THE SUBDIVISION…WHERE SOME TREE DAMAGE WAS NOTED.
AFTER A GAP…ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED NEAR THE INTERSECTION
OF NW 192ND AND WESTERN…WHERE SEVERAL LARGE POWER TRANSMISSION
POLES WERE BLOWN DOWN…AND SOME FENCE DAMAGE WAS ALSO OBSERVED.
WHILE THERE WAS NOT A CONTINUOUS DAMAGE PATH BETWEEN THE TWO DAMAGE
SITES…THEY DO APPEAR TO BE IN LINE WITH THE STORM`S PATH.
THE TORNADO IS RATED AS AN EF-1 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE…AND
BASED ON THE ONE HOME THAT SUSTAINED THE MOST SEVERE DAMAGE IT WAS
LIKELY TOWARD THE HIGHER END OF THE EF-1 CATEGORY. EF-1 TORNADO
DAMAGE IS ASSOCIATED WITH WIND SPEEDS IN THE 86 TO 110 MPH RANGE.
SPECIAL THANKS TO KIEL ORTEGA…AND TO EDMOND…OKLAHOMA CITY AND
OKLAHOMA COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE WITH THE
SURVEY.

Didn't lose power, but lost plenty of sleep! We had finally turned the TV off at 1 AM since we needed to be up early this morning, went to sleep, only to have the sirens go off at 1:30. I'm not sure if I was actually asleep yet, but I sure came alive in a hurry! I woke Mark and told him to turn on the TV. The whole household was awake by the time we figured out it was way north of us. But, my brother and SIL live just over into Logan county and it was headed for them. Mom tried to call them, but they didn't answer. We figured they were in their shelter. Found out this morning they had slept through it after thinking it was safe to go on to bed. Yikes! They didn't hear the phone because the ringers were off on their cells and their other phones require electricity which they lost.

Anyway, glad you weathered the storm okay, Judy. We were wondering about you.

A month after we got the first of our adopted sons in April of 1970, twin tornadoes went through OKC, one 1/2 mile south and the other 2 1/2 miles north of our location on Oakridge in Bethany. That was the first year I was on the faculty and so the others thought the Geographer/weather and climate guy had gotten his Oklahoma initiation.

Jackie and I had a first this afternoon. We were in the Bass Pro Shop in Pearland when a big line of thunderstorms rolled in. We could hear the thunder getting very close. Then the store announced that everyone must quickly move to one section of the store because a tornado had been spotted coming our way. Soon the lights went out and we were in a wait and see mode.

After about 20 minutes they announced that the tornado had moved on and we could leave the store if we wanted. We waited a bit longer and then headed out through the downpour.

I have a NOAA radio in my pickup and when I turned it on they were giving tornado warnings for the three towns I needed to drive through! Pearland, Manvel, and Alvin. When we got home there had been some wind and rain and we were without electricity for around 4 hours.

The only good thing was that the storm dropped the temps from the mid 90's down to the 70's - so we sat out on the patio and enjoyed a cool evening!
