I eat a lot of apples because they are good for the cholesterol count and they are inexpensive. Strawberries are my favorite, but they are rarely cheap enough to be justifiable.

My wife likes bananas.

I'm not sure which is the most common, but my favorite is lemon (I adore lemon). But for the last year or so lemons have been really expensive.

We've been having fresh fruit salads every night for the past several months. And I have become a blackberry-aholic.....LOL

Here's what we've been mixing together -- sometimes all of these, sometimes 2 or 3, sometimes just one.....but some kind of fruit every day after our evening meal.

1. Blackberries.
2. Kiwi fruit
3. Bananas
4. Blueberries
5. Strawberries
6. Red or green grapes
7. Apples
8. Mandarin oranges (yes, these are from a can -- the only UN-fresh fruit I include in our salads! But we like them!!)
9. Pears
10. Lindsey snacks on craisins a lot!
11. And I love cherries -- the yellow/red juicy ones, I can't remember the name of them right at the moment!!

This week we tried some Pear Apples -- yes, cross between a pear and an apple. Shaped like an apple, texture more like a pear -- but not a lot of taste, if you ask me. We probably won't be getting them again. Not to mention they were very expensive.

We've found that the fruit at Costco is quite inexpensive compared to other grocery stores. The only problem is that I really don't like shopping there, but I've been going quite often over the last few months just to stock up on the fruit!!

This thread is making me hungry!! LOL

I stick with the low sugar fruits. Mostly strawberries...in fact just about any berry that is in season, and cantaloupe melon. Also peaches/nectarines in season.

We eat mostly apples and bananas.
I like blueberries (fresh) when I can get 'em. I look forward to picking blueberries about the middle of June (Northeast Texas.)

In our household, bananas are the most consumed fruit by far (3-5 a day). For myself, it's McIntosh Apples, 1 or 2 a day (we couldn't get them in KC, but we have them here year-round. woohoo) During the winter, we eat a lot of various oranges/tangerines/and-the-little-ones-whose-name-I-can't-remember. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, pomegranates, grapes, and kiwi are also often eaten, only as prices are decent.

To live without McIntoshes would be hard for me.

Bananas and strawberries.

We also have our own apple tree and I eat a lot of apples ... albeit most is turned into apple sauce, apple butter, etc.

Here bananas and oranges are the least expensive. But I am virtually an all fruit type of person except for elderberries. I recall when my mother used to can elderberries it drove me out of the house with the smell. Thanks for asking.

My parents believe as you do - the more the better. And it is funny watching them eat the berries - if one thinks the other has had ONE more than the other, s/he will the call the other on it! :p

It's awful. McIntosh apples are one of my favorite foods. The grocery store across the street from us get one or two shipments in from Minnesota every year. It takes 30 minutes to search through the pile to find just a few that aren't horribly bruised.

I miss them terribly.

A while back we went on a field trip of our local Albertson's grocery store and the produce manager asked the kids what they thought the was the most popular fruit worldwide..
The kids guessed all the typical answers- bananas, apples, oranges but we were shocked to find out it was.............. (insert drum roll here) ....................MANGO!

We started eating mango right after that and it is now the most consumed fruit in our home, followed closely by nectarines, cherries, peaches, apples, pears, pineapple, grapes and of course any kid of melon.

BTW- How do you eat a lemon? I cook with it, put it in everything I drink (and I mean everything) but I don't just eat it plain.

My dad has been known to eat lemons plain.

Interesting info about the mango.

Every early fall while we lived in KC, we'd go to an apple farm where they had bushels and bushels of various apples. I'd say they probably had tens of kinds of apples, but when I asked one of the women working there if they had any McIntosh Apples, she looked at me funny and said no.

I'd at least think that they would have heard of them.

When I was in Australia, I stayed on a mango farm. We had mango everything. I particularly remember the juice. It tasted very good in the morning.

So so sad :gen06 Even sadder is that they don't know what they are missing. Well, this will give me a new appreciation for the apples in my store come the fall. :)

A few years ago my mom and I went on a cruise in the Caribbean. When we were on a tour in Costa Rica our tour guide Monica told us how luxuries such as apples are very expensive, hard to come by treats. To have access to one is a special treat.

At the end of the day long tour, those of us who had taken apples from the ship with us to have as a snack for the day gave them to her for a tip instead of money :) She was quite pleased with her tip, too.

Clementines? I love clementines!

Ryan already technically answered this question for me, but I do love bananas. My dad was always really big on trying weird things from the grocery store, so I grew up trying whatever I could get my hands on. Pineapple is my favorite fruit, and I love it fresh, but buy in canned anyway since it's always cheaper. I also enjoy cantelope and honeydew melons. I like papaya and pomegranate. I also drink a lot of fruit juices - my favorite is pineapple/strawberry/banana.

I do love bananas.

Bananas used to be my favorite fruit [after applesauce] until I developed an allergy to it :gen06 After doing some research, I discovered that it is related to latex allergy. I have always gotten nauseous at the smell of natural rubber so it would make sense that I would develop an allergy to bananas.

I miss bananas :(
