I am currently using a Canon XSi, I chose it over the 40D.

Mine is a Canon Rebel XT. That's 'cause I already had a Rebel 2000 and the lenses are interchangeable.

I've got several....

A Nikon D100 (that I keep coming back too) and a Kodak 14N. My Fuji died and wasn't replaced yet....

Could I vote for Pentax twice or even three times? While I don't use it, my daughter has the Pentax K100D and we bought the same for my father-in-law. Just recently my husband replaced his old Nikon with the 20D. He chose Pentax because my father-in-law has some cool lenses for his non-digital camera that will fit on the 20D - unfortunately not on the cheaper series.

There are basically two canon lens types EF and EF-S. The EF lens will work on all cannon DSLRs, and the EF-S lens will work on all but the 1D and the 5D.

EF 70-200 F4.0L

If I knew what a DSLR body is I could answer your question but from the other responses I guess it is something I would not even know if you 'splained it to me.

Jim, the great thing about this question is that if you don't know what it's about, chances are, you don't need to answer :laughing

Anway, to explain what a DSLR is, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_single_lens_reflex_cameras and you'll learn more than you probably want to know :basic05

I haven't purchased a DSLR yet; however, when I do it will be a Pentax. Why? Because camera based image stabilization will allow the use of the Tacumar lens I purchased in Asia during the 1960s and ‘70s.

Wayne,

I think we all have old favorite lenses...

I've still got a 105mm Nikkor that was one of the first lenses I ever bought.

I've been a Nikon user since 1977 when I bought my first camera (F2A body), I've still got it, it gets used once in a blue moon now...

Dana,

Camera equipment are tools....

Why would you want to switch to a DSLR unless your camera is holding you back????

Jonathan,

I really enjoy the camera that I have now, so I'm not looking to replace it any time soon, really......

However, I did play around with a friend's Canon DSLR (I don't know the exact model), and I loved the way it felt in my hands, plus I really did like the pictures that I took with it. So, maybe someday when it's time to replace my current camera, I may end up with a DSLR instead of the so-called in-between style that I have now.

Sometimes I think they are too cumbersome for me and require a lot of photography skills that I do not have. Other times I really love the way the camera felt in my hands and would love to go to the next level of photography.....so who knows what will happen in a year or two or three....as I learn more.....

And, it's definitely not holding me back!! I'm still learning new things about it just about every time I shoot!!

Except fill flash, that is.

LOL

Jonathan,

Sometimes I think they (DSLR) are too cumbersome

I find that my little Nikon CoolPix 880 is cumbersome in the cockpit of my sailplane. In the near future I hope to get something smaller.

Keep in mind that you pay a price for the small size.

If people wonder what a good DSLR can do and why you'd buy it....... The other day a friend of my son bought a Nikon D300 so I checked out the pictures in a review. He's into concert photography and said that's what he wanted it for especially. Checking out this on at ISO 3200 (!!) I understand why. Don't see any compact camera do that.

Warning, it's a big picture, takes a while to load.
