My husband and I went to the south rim of the Grand Canyon this weekend. We took the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, Arizona and spend the afternoon enjoy this glorious gift of God. 17580

Not sure why, but these pictures do not come up when clicked on ... a note, rather, says it is an invalid link does [on each one]. Maybe that's the new way for things to happen when it's a size problem rather than the old way of the picture loader not accepting them and telling one there's a size problem [so they can be resized & then reloaded]???

Sorry you couldn't see the photos in my first post. I was going at it incorrectly - now I know how to do it thanks to the post by Kevin Bowser.
Anyway, I purchased a Canon Powershop IS I5 recently (my first digital camera) and took some shots during our day at the Grand Canyon on 5-3-08. I'm only using the zoom and autofocus as I haven't tried to figure out the manual settings yet. We took the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, AZ- a fun trip that I would recommend if you get the chance. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures.. The one of the mules was taken with my zoom. They were down the trail aways. I stayed on top!!! The bird is a California Condor. They were putting on an awesome show flying over the canyon, but I caught this one resting. I don't quite have enough experience to get them on the fly. I think the black speck in the upper right corner of first photo is a condor although there were hawks flying around too.

Jan,
Thank you for the pictures. Is that Skeleton point in the first picture? In mid-april we went down a ways on the little kaibib trail and your picture looks very familiar.
It was great that you could see so may condor. We only saw a couple of turkey vultures, a squirrel and a lot of crows.

What were the temperatures like when you were there? Linda and I are hiking the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim in a couple of weeks. We are expecting fairly high temperatures in the bottom.
Two weeks ago, when I hiked in Arvaipia Canyon Wilderness, which is south of the Grand Canyon, temperatures got as high as 108 in the sun and as low as 41 at night.

Doug - I'm sorry that I don't know the name of the point in the picture. Dave, the temperature was about 68 - just beautiful!

Dave,
When we were there in mid-April it was about 60F at Cedar Ridge (as far down as we went) at about noon time. It was maybe 50F when we left the top.
Coming back up at midday I found the sun made it feel about 80 since there was no shade. I thought about you more than once and couldn't believe you chose June. ;)
Jan,
We went down the easier trail - South Kaibib on the right of the picture. Bright Angel is supposed to be steeper. Somebody at the front desk at the hotel looked at my skinny 13 year old and said that we should take the easy trail for her sake and bring plenty of water. My daughter was the first one down and the first one back up! We had a great day though we were really exhausted. I carried the water for the 4 of us.

Isn't that a great way to get to the canyon -- on an old-fashioned steam train. We've done that ride about 3 times, and I hope to do it again in the not-too-distant future.
Greetings from a friend on the other side of Phoenix (in Sun Lakes).

The answer is simple. The North Rim isn't open yet because of deep snow. Since our goal is to hike Rim to Rim, we have to wait until the North Rim opens.
