Scott, did you guys get to eat at the mill? We did a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. They give you enough food to feed a small choir!!!

We looked in their guest shop but didn't eat there. It was tempting because it is such a unique place.
I can't believe all the eating places around here -- everything from lowly fast food to big chains to unique, one of a kind restaurants. Since we are in our camper, we are eating "at home" most of the time.
We did drive up to Sevierville and eat at Tony Gore's Mountain BBQ. You may not be familiar with Tony Gore, but he is a southern gospel singer. Years ago he was with the Wilburns, then he led his own trio, Majesty, and a few years ago he moved to a solo ministry.
Like most sogo singers, he needs something to fill in the gaps, and a couple of years ago he opened a restaurant. It has gotten good reviews and we couldn't help but check it out.
The food was very good, although I thought it was a bit pricy.
We also ate out yesterday. Instead of the Old Mill we opted for another fine dining experience: Krystals! I think their burgers are almost as good as White Castles -- which is the supreme compliment for me!

I love "The Mill Restaurant" Mother and I drove up a couple of years ago and met Gary and Peggy Swartzlander there for lunch and we spent the night in Gatlinburg.
Another favorite of mine is The Apple Barn. They also give you enough food for a 'small choir'.
Glad you enjoyed the Krystals. I like them better than White Castle; although living in TN we did not have White Castle.
I'm glad you are enjoying some of the wonderful beauty of the Great State of Tennessee.

Thanks, Scott.
That "green" forest pic makes a great desktop image!
I haven't been to that area of Tennessee (yet,) so I really enjoyed the scenes "virtually."

Marsha,
Don't you just love the fritters that come with meals at the Mill. I loved them so much, I bought a bag of mix to take home. I especially like the maple butter to spread on them. Oh yeah, I need to think more about my diet than those fritters!:laughing

we were in pigeon forge a few years ago, and saw the old mill. As I stood on the little bridge and looked down in the water, I saw some action I hadnt planned on seeing. Deep down near the bottom of the water, there was a large snake lurking, just sitting there doing nothing but being sneaky.
On top of the water a real small baby duck came floating along totally unaware of the danger that lurked below. The baby was very small, and I think the snake thought it looked like a good supper. It started forward after the baby, and I tried (with success) to scare the baby away.
I think there might be some good spiritual lessons here..............and here I go again.......preaching...

Just a quick hello from a parking lot in Birmingham, AL - we're just passing through on our way to southern Mississippi today.

Krystals - what a blast from the past. I can remember eating in them in Atlanta and Nashville when I was just a kid (which would've been right after Sherman went through). Nothing remotely like that out here in SoCal.
Haven't been to the Snokies in years. Have gone through from Gatlinburg to Cherokee several times. Never did go the other way.

We came right by it. In fact, I did the post from a parking lot at another fancy mall just before the Galleria. I think that was, literally, our only Birmingham stop. We stayed out on the freeway and moved right through except of that short break when I grabbed the computer for a few minutes.

Peggy and I haven't been there to eat yet, but my mom and dad eat there often when they are in the area.

One more set of photos. These just because they are somewhat unique. We spent our final night on the road along the Texas coast and that brought us down the Bolivar Peninsula to the ferry into Galveston. I took these photos of our camper on the ferry.

We have been on that ferry several times. It is a neat experience. It is amazing to see the large vehicles that are on the ferry (school busses, etc.) and that it is FREE, paid for by the state of Texas.
