I've been shooting lots of senior portraits...

I think this is my favorite one so far.

On Thursday I'm headed to Starved Rock State Park in Utica, IL to shoot.

Here's a link:

Here are a collection of four similar photos.

I encountered a photography exhibit in the middle of Riga, Latvia, this month. The photographs displayed were excellent.

I decided to take pictures of the people looking at the photos. And then I realized that there might be some interesting combinations of people looking and the subjects of the photos on display. So here are four of my favorite combinations...

Thomas,

It's interesting to see an "open air" exhibit. How are the photographs protected?

Jonathan,

Apparently the displays are rolled in and out of the square at night. So the photos are protected in that way. But I don't recall if they had a special "plastic" covering or not. I don't recall this kind of protection, but I may be wrong.

I could be wrong, but I think all of the photo subjects were Latvian. But not all of the photographers were Latvian.

I just got back from visiting my grandfather, who has cancer. He has some beautiful flowers outside in his garden and I had fun shooting a couple of them. The pictures I took of family are more heartwarming than great quality photography or anything like that (not saying that this picture is "great quality photography" either... haha).

For my birthday, we went to Chester County, PA for the day. I didn't plan on taking the picture of the daisies but as I walked along this shaded, wooded area I came upon them as the sun shone on them. In the end, I think this shot is the best of the bunch. The second picture is coastal azalea.

I took this picture of our "Easter Lilies" that started blooming today (5/25/08).
We purchase a lily to display in the church each year at Easter, then I plant them in a flower bed.
Obviously, the lilies have their own timetable for blooming.:basic01
(Those blooms in the foreground are on a wildflower called "Fleabane.")

I took the two below today. Hans explained me how to use spot metering and especially the first one shows the result. I'm glad I'm learning how to use it!

cannot get it to focus when I am reeealy close,
you know when the lens is in focus it has that ah ha sound?
well this one does not do this and sees to just not focus when up close, close

here are some examples, the
first two were done free hand
last three were using a tripod, and i was still not able to
get right into the center of the flower.
I broke a Tameron 300mm Macro lens in DC and sure miss it

Judy, my macro lens wasn't good at it either. I've learned that with macro, the best thing is to focus manually. Otherwise, chances are the lens starts "hunting" or doesn't focus properly at all. Indeed that happens when you're really close.

Judy,

Keep in mind that you went from a 300 macro to a 60mm macro as well. The "working distance" of the lens just got much shorter. My Nikon lens did have trouble autofocusing at close distances, and the closer you are the shorter your depth of field will be. Which translates to less of your subject in focus unless you stop the lens down quite a bit.

There appears to be a bit of courtship going on here between these two lizards.
Sorry, I forgot to use the flash, & with only one chance to take the picture, the shadows will just have to stay there.
She doesn't seem to be too interested. :basic01
