This morning I heard a master piece sermon on Judas.
Here was a man that was hand picked by Jesus, he was given authority over demons, authority to heal, to preach, to work miracles. Here was a man who was given a place of honor at the table of the Last Supper, even when Jesus already knew that Judas would betray Him.
We often remember Jesus taking the towel and washing the feet of Peter, but do you realize that Jesus also washed the feet of Judas, the one He knew would betray Him?
We do not see any public rebukes of Judas by Jesus. Private ones? Maybe. I think that is so significant in studying the love of Jesus.
Who suspected Judas and what he was to do? He seemed to conform to the rules, and the style of the others. I wonder if we too, can conform on the outside, but still not be a real follower of the Man from Galilee, the lowly Nazarene.
Jesus had a Love, that even though people persecuted Him, spat in His face, literally, shoved a spear into His side, and ridiculed Him and ruined His reputation.....He still loved! If we are to be imitators of this Man, we gotta lot of livin to do!

Thanks, Bob -
Judas seemed to have the best "resume'" of the 12, too. He was apparently the best business person, as well (why else would he be given charge of the money)?

That gives me pause. None of the disciples ended up doing very well in the loyalty dept., but it should get our attention (I believe) that the most qualified in the worldly way of measuring such things was...well...Judas!

Also, I've always wondered what kind of story Judas could have shared with the world. If a guy like Paul (Saul), a persecutor of the Church, ends up writing 2/3 of the NT and being its best early missionary, what kind of great things might Judas have done??

I think C.S. Lewis thought similarly, and that's why he let Edmund (the betrayer) be redeemed and rise to such heights (A king of Narnia)....

Anway.... Thanks for your post!

Blessings,
Charles

I've always been fascinated by how bad a rap Judas gets all the time. It seems like any of the apostles could have been the one to do it; I would think the pressure on all of them would have been pretty intense.

I think too often it's forgotten that he repented too. I know that because he killed himself many believe he went to hell, but I'm honestly not so sure. When Jesus went into the tomb and preached to the righteous and unrighteous there I see no reason why Judas wouldn't have been able to respond.

Considering that he played the role he needed to play and Jesus knew it, acknowledged it, and sent him on his way, I believe that God's grace is big enough for even Judas.

Matthew 27:3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
