When the deer came to our garden this morning, we had a new one. It was so small, it almost couldn't get back up the hill to get away.

We have 2 or 3 family groups moving through our backyard now. We have such a chintzy camera though, I can't get good shots of them. We also have a coyote on the prowl in our area. I was about 5 feet away from it the other evening, w/out the camera (or a rifle) and the patio door between us, (thankfully for one of us).

Cute picture of "Bambi."
Thanks.

Yep.... it is almost that time here in the forests of northeast Texas.
Our deer population over the past 10 years has really increased.
Since we live in a community that is closed to the public, and heavily wooded, with no hunting allowed, the deer have taken advantage of the protection they have.
Some folks even feed them.
I try to treat them as wild animals, but it is difficult to keep them out of my flower beds. I spray a garlic/hot pepper solution on the plants that they consider "dessert," and that helps..... sometimes. :basic01

I would prefer to treat them as wild animals. Unfortunately, they have become so tame that they don't run away. They just move out of reach.

Our neighbor has added an extension to his fence that makes it too tall for the deer to jump over. That means that rather than just moving through our yard, our yard is now a destination.

Yesterday, there was a doe in our yard. When I went out to make it leave, it just stood there and continued to eat. When I got within about 15 feet, it slowly walked away. As it moved away, it would still stop to nibble at our plants.

Just precious.
