It has now been a couple of months since Kevin introducted us to Kiva.Org. I am not spending as much time on it as I did at first, but continue to be amazed. Kiva is restoring my confidence in mankind.

Every request for a loan that I have seen has been fully funded within a coupe of days. People from all over the world are joining in to help people from poorer areas.

All of the loans I have made are being handled just as I hoped they would. Several of them have actually started paying back.

I joined KIVA after seeing the thread about it here. I actually had heard of it a few months ago, but didn't join until now. I'm enjoying following the activity and reading the e-mail updates. For those of you who are able to participate it is a wonderful organization. Check it out.:basic05

Dave, do you think it would be safe to use a Debit Card on Kiva? I use to have a PayPal account, I have not used it in awhile so not sure it will still be open for use.

I would like to participate not in a large amount but maybe offer a small loan. Of course, what is a small amount to us might be a large amount to the person receiving it.

You can contribute to a loan without funding the whole thing; others will join with you to raise the amount needed.

That is what I would probably do. I would have to partner with some more people.

I believe all of the financial transactions on KIVA go through PayPal, but I don't think you have to have a current PayPal account. They will accept a debit card.

But you will need a PayPal account if you ever want to withdraw money from Kiva. Personally, I don't expect to get anything back. It is my intention to just keep relending.

You are right that what seems a small amount for you will make a really big difference in the third world areas. You $25 will be combined with similar amounts from others. For many of the people borrowing, a $1,000 loan is equal to an entire year's income.

We had a guest speaker in our SS class the other day talk about Kiva. I am new to NazNet so I haven't see the other thread on it. But, I just think it an awesome idea. The speaker said her son gave everyone in their family $25 for christmas to invest in Kiva. What a great gift idea!
