Yeterday Virginia and I enjoyed the first radishes from our garden. They were only about the size of a nickel but it is hard to wait for that fresh produce.
By tomorrow (Sat.) we will enjoy salads with fresh spinich and lettice. OUr peas are only a couple of days from open blossoms. And Mike, our tomato plants are about 2 ft. tall now from their starting at about 6 inches.
The green and lima beans are up as well as the carrots, beats, kol-rabi, cuke vines, squash (Virginia plants these weeds--squash). We have harvested our rubarb. We are about 2-3 wks from being able to buy a supply of strawberries to freeze for the year and to make freezer jam with.
I could go on but I am getting hungry and it is not lunch time yet.

Have you had a rhubarb pie yet?
Silly question.
Oh Yum.
Farmers Markets are open here. Fresh tomatoes, green onions, lettuce, strawberries. I love it.
Our ground is too sandy for a good garden spot.
And the peonies and lilacs are in bloom, too. I love this time of open windows all day long.

Whenever Virginia makes homemade bread (especially bread) and rhubarb pie, I do not let them go out the door unless she makes another to leave at home. When she brings one of her rhubarb pies to a church dinner, the older ladies all go to the desert table and get their piece before they have gotten the rest of their dinner. Most times it is gone before the front of the line of people who have gotten the main dinner items get to the dessert table. You have the watch those old ladies here. They are pretty sharp and know how to work a pot-luck. On occasion, one of them even gets me a piece and brings it to me since I most generally wait until everyone else has gone through the line first. She is so Christlike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such a thoughtful person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have one gal who brings home made fudge to potlucks. I let others go in line first, then get at the back of the line....near the dessert table. I have a couple of pieces of fudge before I get my plate at the main course table.

In one of our pastorates, a lady made strawberry-rhubarb preserves and they did not set firm enough. She brought us two jars and told us they were runny, but would be great on ice cream. SHE WAS RIGHT. LOL
One of our ladies here makes a rhubarb cobbler for potlucks and she always goes home with an empty dish.
Did you use to eat raw rhubarb with salt on it as a kid? We did no northern Ohio.

Fresh veggies ... yum! [used to grow radishes sometimes as a kid; still love 'em, but sometimes they do lack taste when you buy them]
Anyway, all the rhubarb talk ... you're making me so hungry for it, it's not funny! My mouth waters just thinking about it! When I make something rhubarb, I don't do strawberry-rhubarb, but straight rhubarb! Oh, man ... I want some!

I still pick a stalk of rubarb, peel the skin off and sit down with it and salt shaker and enjoy. In fact, that may just be the thing before I mow my grass today.
