i am at loss to how to convey the meaning of
this National BBQ summer kick off...
so will post how several veteran friends I keep
company talk of Memorial Day. These men served in the Navy,
at Vung Ro Bay, a deep water port as you will note the details in the last post...Judy

God bless those who served and serving now

I have even preached a message from a cometary. I think the older we get the more we think of the past and how our lives were spared. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of Vung Ro Bay and what took place.

The unloading of the ships with bombs and anything else that they carried. Being on guard duty walking the lonely road at night - not being able to see because it was so dark - the feeling that Charlie could be behind any tree just waiting. The helicopter that would fly over head going to some battle to help Grunts in any way that they can. The shell oil tankers in the bay with JP4 jet fuel on them; the mortar rounds coming in at different times that barley missed the ships. The men and trucks that would come from Tuy Hoa to get the cargo and fuel and how the stories we were told of some of the trucks that would not make it back to the Airbase. The lives that would be lost. The night that that the Lark blew up on shore - men running every which way with fire extinguishers trying to put it out to no avail - the hatch cover hitting one in the head killing him instantly. If memory serves me right he only had 11 days left. I don't remember his name anymore. I can go on and on with things that distress me. There is hardly a day goes by that I don't remember something about the war. I thank my Lord and Savior every day for keeping me out of harms way. Let Us Not Forget. Henry

Henry: The day the LARC blew up was the day I left Vung Ro. I will never forget the sight of the poor brother's body covered with an orange tarp as I said good by to Captain Royal befor going to the Swift boat dock for my ride out. May all our departed Brothers and Sisters rest in eternal peace and their memory be for a blessing to us all who remain here in the mortal world.

Henry, thanks for your thoughts on this weekend to remember our hero's. Most of them unknown, but never the less still hero's to a mother, father, brother, sister and friends.

I to remember Vung Ro Bay in 1966 when Sir Charles tried to motor the ships and the Army's response was to move the ships out of the bay into high seas to unload them to the LARCS and other craft. I remember climbing those jacobs ladders to board the ships with full gear until one brother fell to the water and lost his M14 rife. The next day we left that gear on shore as the army did not want to lose more M14's. Just a side note to the far left liberals who chopped up all M14's in 1994 per President Clinton. The best battle rifle ever made and now the receivers cut in half sit on desks as paper weights in many offices around the country.

During our service tomorrow we are taking time to sign cards of prayer and appreciation that are being sent to the families of the most recent fallen soldiers of our state. I have also gone on a website that gives you the name of a service person you can adopt with prayer and post prayers for them. One of the best ways I have found personally to show my respect for those that gave their lives - is support one who is doing it currently.

My cousin sent the following information to me and I thought all of you might be interested in seeing it. My mother is a WWII vet (Navy) and I am taking care of her now (she is 87 years old with diabetes and alzheimer's) and I am a VN (Tuy Hoa) AF vet. The song was written as a tribute to a WWII vet and later they added a version for VN vets, the link goes to the WWII version so you'll have to look for and select the one for VN vets. check it out.
