As I have previously posted, I have stopped posting in advance where Linda and I travel.

This time I have decided to share one of our adventures with you. Next week, Linda and I will be hiking in the Grand Canyon. On June 2, we plan to start at the North Rim and hike all the way to Bright Angel Campground on the Colorado River.

On June 3, we will explore the Phantom Ranch area.

On June 4, we will hike out to the South Rim.

I will carry my SPOT personal locator beacon. From time to time, I will use it to send our location to a web site:

http://share.findmespot.com/shared/gogl.jsp?glId=0tLlE23uHHrLnyvAqgXHzKtqhP5XpPu7f (http://share.findmespot.com/shared/gogl.jsp?glId=0tLlE23uHHrLnyvAqgXHzKtqhP5XpPu7f)

Anyone who wants to follow our progress can check the web site.

Also, Marsha Gupton has agreed to be our Grand Canyon Reporter. She will receive some of the messages and will post them here.

Be aware that the SPOT does not allow me to change the message while I am hiking. The message is programmed before we leave.

We will probably have internet access on June 6, so we can share some pictures. These pictures are from last year's hike.

Not everyone is able to get to the Burlington Chocolate festival but don't feel bad. The Grand Canyon will probably be nice, too. ;)

Enjoy!

Ya know ... anytime I see something re the Grand Canyon, it sort of gets to me ... lived in "The Grand Canyon State" [license plates even say so ;)], and have never, ever been there ... seen it ... other than in photos.

Someday .....................

Dave: do you carry ALL of your supplies with you? Do you sleep out there each night? Being isoloated and so far from a phone or other people makes me very nervous. I will look forward to your post that says you are HOME!!

Last year, we carried everything we needed on our back. This year we decided to send a duffle bag with our tent and camping supplies down with a mule train.

Yes, we will sleep in a tent at the Bright Angel Campground. There are cabins at Phantom Ranch, which is right beside the Campground; however, they are always rented by people who ride the mules. The weight limit on mules is low enough that I don't qualify; therefore, I never get to rent a cabin. That is ok, because I don't mind sleeping in a tent.

Actually, the Grand Canyon isn't as isolated as many of the places I hike and camp. I sometimes camp in places where there is no other living person for miles around. I don't consider any place that has running water and toilets to be isolated.
