I woke up out of a sound sleep at 5 AM feeling like I was being pricked all over my body and ITCHING, ITCHING, ITCHING. I do not have a dog, cat, gerbil, pet mice, etc. I do have a wonderful wife. My eating habits have not changed in two hundred years and our house is cleaner than 99% in the world. Those who know me know I don't try new foods. Last think I ate last night was popcorn.

A week ago I had something around my feet that appeared to be bites but this seems different, pinpricks all over my body. Part of the mystery is it woke me up in the night.

I have taken some medicine with antihistamine so it seems to be letting up some, either that or I have knocked myself out and will sleep for a few weeks.

I have, like others, had itches from time to time but the pinprick sensation all over was a bit new.:basic04

I was going to suggest poison ivey. But does California have poison ivey.
Down here in Texas we also have chiggers. :q)

Sometimes if you take a Wednesday night bath instead of Saturday night bath, it will help. :laughing

Did you start on a new medicine recently?

Two years ago I began itching and it developed into a rash that covered most of my body and made me absolutely miserable for 3 months.

What started it? EYE DROPS. I had a Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (blood clot in the central vein of my retina) and had steroid shots into my eye. That made my eye pressure increase so the doctor gave me some eye drops to use twice a day.

These eye drops have sulfa in them. I discovered I am allergic to sulfa drugs.

No one would believe me. The opthamologist did not think it was they eye drops. Urgent Care did not think it was the eye drops. The retinal specials told me to see my regular doctor who did not believe it was the eye drops. She even suggested I was allegeric to the detergent used in the sheets I slept on at district assembly..

GOOD old internet. I searched and found that the sulfa in these eye drops could cause an allergic reaction for up to 110 days. Guess how long I itched??????????? 3 months.

What did I do? I took a lot of WalMart brand benedryl antihistimine. The doctor told me that you cannot overdose on antihisitimine, so take 4, then 2 more in a hour. I took antihisitmines for 3 months around the clock.

And the best relief I got was from benedryl gel...in a bottle. I bought the Super D brand most of the time. It spread easily and gave instant relief. I used LOTS of bottles of it in 3 months.

it gradually went away, but STRESS of any kind sent me into a scratching fit.

I hope you get relief soon and it does not last long. An oatmeal bath gives relief, too.

Someone mentioned posion ivy. For me it is posion oak. We have quite a bit of posion oak that grows along the back of our property. Quite often, I accidentally cut some with the weed eater. When I do, I get symptoms like you describe. If I don't treat it, it tends to move around my body, popping up in different places for several days. It has gotten to the point that my doctor just gives me a prescription that I can fill when I need it. It is a cream with steriods.

I have tried to think of anything different I ate or changes and then answer is no.

The first deal with it that lasted about a day around my feet and lower legs appeared to be some kind fo bite. This that happen today that woke me up itching was all over and not bites.

I think I took to much antihistamine because it knocked me out and I just woke up. I don't seem to be doing to bad right now.

Sharon sees the doctor tomorrow to see if she can go back to work. Maybe I have stressed out over that. I didn't think so but sometimes you don't know what you are stressed out about.

I remember when I was a little kid I had something they called "The itch" and I was given hot baths or something.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Once in a while the emphasis is more on fearfully.:laughing I think the feeling like pin pricks was as bad as the itching. They didn't really hurt but if was enough to drive me batty or should I say battier.

When I am having an anxiety attack, it will often start with lots of itching. Benadryl helps with that. It is dirt cheap at costco and sam's. Also lots of prayer helps, too.

Well, you don't SOUND stressed (except for the rash) but I've had very similar rashes periodically for the last few years and my doctor said they were stress related. Invariably when I get under a lot of stress, I come up with that rash somewhere on my body. Usually I can get rid of it with antihistamine cream if relaxation techniques don't do the trick. Sorry you itch.

The morphine I'm taking now is causing itching at my wrists and knees. Just there. Go figure.

Taking any medicines?

Yes but not anything that I have not been taking for months. It seems to have gone since I took a rather large dose of antihistamine. Then again I will let you know for sure when I wake up.:laughing

Didn't you say you had some kind of insect bites on your feet a few days ago? Sometimes insect bites can cause a delayed allergic reaction.

Sensitivies to medications can develop over time, too. Even though you didn't react to this med in the past, you can react now.

For Sue and Barb, if I get into really warmto hot water which I love, and soak in that for any length of time   my feet will get real red and start itching very very badly. Well  i the tube of steroid cream that my derm. gave to me eons ago, and I think that it expired this year...but guess what...it works!!  My grandaughter started itching the other day all over her arms and she does this at home too.  So I spread that cream on them and it went away for her.  Her mom had to read what was in that stuff.  I guess that it passed her approval for then, anyway.  It works for now, for me. I just try to stay out of really hot water. ::q)  Interesting disscussion.

I broke out in hives once...I was under alot of stress in our ministry. I broke out in a friends house. We were there to say good bye as they were moving their ministry elsewhere. I think I was jealous. I saw the doctor the next day,and after lots of questions she asked if I was under any stress, I said yes, and the more I talked the more the itchy hives went away. Stress is weird!

Sharon throws out things when they say they expired. I think it is mostly the way a company gets you to buy more stuff. I have eye drops that say they expired, "Refresh Tears" or something like that.

I hope she never notices the expiration date on the bottom of my foot.:laughing

Lots of things in life want you to replace them when there is still a lot of good in them. Printer ink cartridges are an example.

What things should we really be careful of and what ones should we ignore?

I have been reading this thread with interest. Last Tuesday evening I broke out with what I think is poison ivy. I had been out in the yard near the fence line and pulled something that look suspicious. It was suspicious all right!!!

I never had poison ivy until 11 years ago and I got a good dose then. This week I have been trying a couple of remedies that didn't work. Sunday I broke out with a lot more places of blisters and itching. Last night I didn't get much sleep because of the itching so I went to the doctor today. I am on two medications and a cream. I certainly hope this clears up soon. It is not very comfortable.

Jim, how are you doing? Have you conquered your itch? I hope so.

Sorry to hear about your poison ivy, but glad you are doing better.

After taking what probably was an overdose of antihistamine yesterday and sleeping or sleep walking most of the day, I feel better today.
