We were blessed to have three relatively cool days. The highest temperature we saw was less than 100 degrees in the sun. That was more than 20 degrees cooler than we experienced last year.

Here are a few more pictures. The "other guy" is Dr. Gary Morsch, the founder of Heart to Heart.

Went with Gary and his wife into the lower reaches of a gold mine in South Africa. Great time was had by all.

Vickie was one of my students. Where is her picture? There are Native Americans living down at the bottom of the canyon so this is what a physician and a retired college president do when they have time off.

I am uploading all of our pictures to my web site now. We took over 600, so it will take a while. I will post a link when they are uploaded.
Vickie's pictures are among the ones I am uploading.
The Native Americans who live in the bottom of the canyon don't live inside the Grand Canyon National Park. They live to the west, in Supai, where I visited last year.

Thanks, Dave for all of the pictures. It was a Geographer's delight including the pictures of Vickie and Gary. I remember Vickie's smile and how proud she was to bring Gary into my office to introduce her boyfriend to me. Her good friend and probably her roommate was Susan Vestal. Gary's sister, Becky, now a missionary nurse in Papua New Guinea, was also in a couple of my classes. Thank you for giving this "ole Prof" a look at his former student and her "long time boyfriend."

Dave,
Thank you for the great Grand Canyon series. About five years ago we stopped by the canyon on our way home from visiting Hal and his family in San Antonio. So, I thought I would add a couple pictures to this thread.

Dr. McClung: The pix are so beautiful. I've lived in Arizona most all my life and still haven't made the trip to see God's wonder. Although rumor has it when my parents came out with my sister for Dad's interview I did see the canyon, though I didn't have the best advantage. You guessed it, Mom was pregnant with me at the time.
BTW the pix of you sitting on the ground/leaning on the rock resting, very GQ of you.
Thanks again for sharing, God bless you and Miss Linda.

Barb
I had to check Google to see if "GQ" was good or bad. Perhaps I need to seek a new career in modeling?

Dave , just didn't have the time last night to view your pictures . Then intended to only watch part tonight but just couldn't stop ! Lovely . So nice to see the Coulters again . Karen looks radiant and so young compared to Bill . I gather they started with you and came back to meet you at the end but didn't do the Rim to Rim hike . ( Bill's health , maybe?)
Loved the flora and fauna and especially the 4 purple flowers . Haven't a clue what they are but rather unusual in shape .
Thank you so much for sharing your pictures again and allowing me this beautiful virtual hike .

Bill and Karen started the hike with us, but Bill had some difficulty. He believes it was because of some medication, but it was probably related to the elevation. He didn't have much time to acclimate to the higher altitude. The North Rim is over 7,000 feet. In any case, after a mile or so I became concerned and recommended that he and Karen return to the North Rim and drive our SUV back to the South Rim. They were waiting for us when we arrived. We enjoyed the time we had together.
