I thought it would be interesting to start up a "Didja know?" thread about the new software. I know Dave started one earlier, but I thought it would be good in this forum. A "Didja" is a little thing you found out about the software. It may or may not be useful, but just fun to know :-)

My first Didja I found out by accident researching another question.

Didja know that if you hover over the title of the thread, in most browsers it will show you the most of the first line of the original post.

I posted this elsewhere, but it belongs here, too (with a little editing).

Didja know that when you click on a thread that has new posts since the last time you were there, then click on "View first unread" on the left side of the blue border, It takes you right to where you left off?

Hmm... I don't see the "View first unread" button -- maybe because I'm in hybrid mode. However, I did just figure out this morning that, in the hybrid mode, unread posts in the thread have a red square next to them. That seems so obvious, but represents a big break-thru for me. I've been struggling to figure out how to tell which posts I've already read and which are new.

Here's the route I take to see the "first unread post" link:

That "view first unread" choice is not there in the hybrid mode. Which makes sense because the whole thread is right there to see and all the unread posts in the thread have a red square next to them.

Didja know...
that I installed a couple of new styles for Community? Use the "style chooser" lower left hand of any page. I may add another later on, but I thought these combos would give people a couple of very different looks.

People have asked about logging out. I've wondered if the forum shows that I'm still hanging around when I've actually moved on to other activities on my computer without logging out. Every time I check, it says I'm there!

Yesterday afternoon I made a couple of discoveries.

1. If you read NazNet without logging in, you're listed among the "guests" in the "Who's Online" list.

2. If you're inactive for a while, even if you don't close the browser or log out, you are no longer listed as being online.

I don't know how long "a while" is.

Didja know....if you click on a members name in a post it opens a menu where you can:

View the members public profile.
Send member a private message
Send member an e-mail (If they listed an e-mail address)

Visit the member's homepage (If they listed one)
Find all the posts made by that member
Add them to a buddy list
Hope this helps,

Didja know...the icon after a members name tells you if that member is online or not. If it is green, that member is currently viewing the board, if it is dark, they are not viewing the board.

Hope this helps,

That you can change the sequence of the posts, and see the latest ones on top? I like it! Saves a lot of scrolling. Select "User CP", go to "Edit Options" and on to "Thread Display Mode"

Didja know that you can easily provide a link using different words, like clickhere (http://http://www.naznet.com/community/showthread.php?p=6313#post6313). When you have a link click on the 'insert link' icon. It's the globe with a paper clip. A box pops up where you can enter the address of the link. After you do that the address in inserted into the text of your message twice. The second address is highlighted. You can then change it to anything you want. I'm not sure, but I think you can't use spaces.

It only took me a month and a half to figure this out. :basic02

Here's one I learned the hard way:

I left the browser on this computer sitting on NazNet for a couple of hours.
Then, I clicked on a message, and typed in a long reply.
When I hit submit, I got a "page not found" error and lost everything.Lesson learned: if you leave the computer on NazNet, you may want to press F5 to refresh the browser before typing in messages.

I use the hybrid mode, which means I see the structure of the thread in a box at the top and all the posts opened up linearly below. However, for lengthy threads, I end up scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, maybe even having to go to another page to pick up on the new threads and trying to figure out where I want to jump in to read. Yes, I can go directly to a new post by clicking on its title in the box showing the structure of the thread, but then I only see one post at a time and have to do that for every one.

The other alternative for new posts within a subthread is to click on the first post of the subthread. That opens up that post plus all the subsequent posts in the subthread.
