I answered "I don't know," since none of us really know, but I don't find any of the above definitions to be adequate.

An affirmation of the current scientific theory of evolution doesn't preclude a belief that there was a real Adam.

I have no idea what you mean by a specific mutation of spirit - you might have to explain that a little more to me.

not specific mutation OF but FOR

Meaning at a specific point in the process of evolution from single cell lifeform to a homo-sapien God infused His image by breathing "spirit" into the "first man" Adam, thus making man after His own image and unique in creation. This is accepting evolution and yet meshing it with the Genesis account.

I guess that makes a little more sense. I've always considered the human ability to think rationally and the freedom to make choices based on thought as the image of God in us. While I'm not sure it would require a specific action on God's part, it would require a specific evolutionary measure, which God would have ultimately sourced.

I'll stick with "I don't know" for now, but that middle option is a bit closer to what I might say. Thanks for the clarification.
