You probably read of the request for Flood Relief Kits for Iowa. When disaster strikes we often think, “I wish I could do something to help”. The first and most important is to prayer for the victims. But action is also needed. You may have read of the need listed below in NCN News. Let’s put feet to our prayers and do what we can. I’m working from home and do not have a data base for pastors on my computer. So, I’m sending this message to ministry spouses and local NMI Presidents in hopes that tomorrow, Sunday, we can spread the word and do something for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Iowa. Thank you for you help.
NDR is also passing along a request from the Oakland Church as they are at a critical stage for specific disaster supplies.
They are asking for a Flood Kit which can be made just like a Crisis Care Kit. As many as 2,500 kits are needed.
Very specific supplies go into these kits and each kit can be made for around $15.00 (U.S.). If possible, each Flood Kit should contain:
A quart zip-close plastic bag, with…(I THINK THEY MEANT A GALLON BAG)
One small box band-aids
One small tube antibiotic ointment or cream
One small bottle of insect repellent
One small bottle of sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher, waterproof if possible)
Two pairs rubber cleaning gloves (not surgical gloves)
One disposable flashlight
One ball of twine (for tying carpet and other debris into bundles)
Kits should be sent directly to the church at the following address:
Oakland Church of the Nazarene
3000 42nd Street NE
Cedar Rapids, IA 52402
Finally, NDR is asking for financial contributions to help cover operational expenses.
Donations can be made through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. Checks should be marked “ACM1835-USA Floods” and be made payable to the General Treasurer, then sent to Global Treasury Services, 6401 The Paseo, Kansas City, MO 64131. In Canada, checks should be made payable and sent to the Church of the Nazarene Canada, 20 Regan Road, Unit 9, Brampton, Ontario L7A 1C3. Online donations can be made at ncm.org.
For information on volunteering, write to Steve Creech at screech@ncmi.org.
Prayer is requested for all those affected by the many weather-related disasters across the U.S. this year, as well as for the NDR staff and teams of volunteers putting forth tireless efforts meeting their needs.
