I've been wondering when people would start preparing for a pending world cataclysm in 2012. Well, I guess they've started (http://www.citizenlink.org/clspecialalert/A000007665.cfm), although I didn't anticipate that The Netherlands would be one of the first places people would start preparing, maybe that why that guy built a full scale replica of Noah's Arc (http://www.lifeinthefastlane.ca/modern-day-noahs-arc-sets-sail/offbeat-news).

For those who don't know, the Mayan calendar ends with the Winter Solstice in 2012 and some people believe that the calendar has predicted major world events through history. So the reasoning goes, when the calendar ends, so will the world.

Makes sense to me - if you're out of checks you must be out of money.

....Someone should have told my kids that.....they thought that if we were out of checks....all I had to do was go to the ATM machine.....because it could always dispense money.

So what are we supposed to prepare for? The day after the end of the world?

I don't understand some of the things people do to get ready for the end. My grandfather told me a story about when Hailey's Comet passed by when he was a kid. A bunch of people sold everything they had, put the money in their pockets, and then the night it was going to pass closest to earth, they got together and sat on top of hay stacks waiting for the rapture. As the night passed, and it got darker some young pranksters from town snuck in to the field and set the hay stacks on fire. Apparently their was quite a commotion because it appeared that instead of being snatched up, hell was opening up for them instead.

It's actually a fifth, not a full scale.

I don't know what the hype is about. When my calendar runs out each year, I just get a new one, and voila! there's January 1st again!

Someday, all our calendars will run out. Jesus missed so many other dates (or did he!?) that I don't hear much about the Second Coming these days.

I am out of money and still have checks, now what do I do? When I am out of Mayanaise I get Miracle Whip and feel quite prepared with my salami sandwiches.
