Hi, Naznet friends:
My family and I are leaving for Russia on July 7th (through the 24th). I will be teaching a Systematic Theology I course for European Nazarene College's Russia extension! The Cantarellas will be our hosts (CIS Education directors). Please pray for safe travel and that God would use our time there for His glory.
I'm preaching at Moscow First Naz on July 13th, and in St. Petersburg on the 20th. In between, I will teach a 6 day intensive course (30 classroom hours in 6 days) in Chekhov (near Moscow). In between we will doing some tourist stuff and also assisting the local children's ministry in the area (including a nice offering that the kids of our local church, North Seattle Naz, gave to the children's ministry)!
Anyway, we have a blog that we will try to keep up with while we're there. We'll only have internet access about half the time, but we'll do our best:

Thanks for your prayers....
Blessings,

Heavely Father and Brother Jesus, I pray that Dr. Christian and his family will be Your instruments of blessing and glorify You and Your names throughout their trip. Thank You for their opportunity to make this trip and keep them safe for Your sake, Amen.
Please greet my friend, Linda Russell there.

Thanks, Jim. Your prayers are very much appreciated. If I'm not mistaken, Linda is involved in Children's Ministry there, so we'll likely see her a lot! I'll pass along greetings,
Blessings,
Charles

God Bless You as you go to teach for ENC! When you get to St. P, greet the Mendakovs. Tatiana is a former member of our church here. She is involved in orphanage ministries there. Our DS has been to Kazakhstan and the same place you will be teaching last July. Be sure and give us a report when you come home!

Charles, you are a very fortunate man. I visited Russia soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Most of my time was spent in Volvograd and Moscow. You will love the people.
Two insights:
I hope you like cucumbers. I vowed I would never eat another one, and I have kept my promise. They have cucumbers morning, noon and night.
I urge you to pray before you board if you will be flying Aeroflot. It helped me!:)
It was very moving for me to stand in Red Square. I was terrorized as a child watching on TV the annual May Day parades in Red Square. Kruschev loved to show off his IBMs, and he would threaten to destroy America. To stand where those IBMs were once put on display was a powerful moment.
I was also allowed to tour the Armory next to the Kremlin. It was surreal to see equipment and personal belongings that once belonged to Peter the Great and Ivan the Terrible.
Enjoy your trip and post some pictures when you get home.
Michael

Linda Russell is an alumnus of ENC who grew up in Philadelphia, I believe, but she and her college friend, Susan, decided to take advantage of the Masters in Education program then being offered by NNC, contacted the Boise School system and were hired. Susan married a local fellow but Linda has remained single and after teaching in Boise for a number of years she heard Chuck and Carla Sunberg speak and felt moved to offer herself as a volunteer for a year, felt a call to serve as a missionary full time, came back to Boise, sold her house and applied for and received appointment by Nazarene HQ. The Sunbergs considered her most valuable for the Russian mission. She is a true daughter of Kingdom service.
