...Of the many books on management I have read , John Kotter's book " Leading Change " is one of the best books around on the subject of change and its impact. Kotter , who teaches at the Harvard Business School , wrote this book some years ago. It remains one of the primary reference books for leaders who are taking their company/ church/organization through major changes.
I found Kotter's book most helpful where he points out where change initiators frequently fail: (1)...failure to build coalitions (2)...failure to anchor change to the culture ( 3 )...declaring victory too soon.
It was the last point that really grabbed my attention.....since I have led our church through major changes through the past few years. His chapter on the third point helped me see where I failed ....subsequenntly having to do some difficult work in order to preserve the gains that we had made initially.
I recommend Kotter's book....especially to leaders who face leading organizations through major change.
