Our church is making a concerted effort to have some sort of corporate prayer service/opportunity on each day of the week. We currently have Men's prayer on Tuesday and Thursday a.m., Women's pray on Friday at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday night prayer service, Wed. night youth group/prayer and a group that prays during the Sunday worship service.

I've been tossing around the idea of a Monday noon somewhat structured prayer service, kind of like the daily office prayer. The way I envision it we would have a Psalm reading and a Gospel reading, and then have segments of prayer for a number of things that can vary weekly such as:

Lost Friends
Our Church
Our community
The sick
Praise to God
Thanksgiving

etc

Do any of you have experience with a service like this? I envision it being 45 min max, closer to 1/2 hour since it is on people's lunch schedule.

I'd love to hear ideas on how to make this work. The Book of Common Prayer is a resource I intend to use. But I am open to other ideas.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Roy

I don't have any experience with which to share ideas but did want to let you know that this all sounds wonderful.

I don't have any experience with which to share ideas but did want to let you know that this all sounds wonderful.

A seminary professor I contacted suggested we try "The Prayers of The People" format:

• The Church (all Christians everywhere), its members and mission
• The Nation and all in authority
• The welfare of the world
• The concerns of the local community
• Those who suffer and those in any trouble

He suggests that the format will keep the service from becoming too individualistic and self-centered.

What say you?
