Got an email today from "UPS" stating that a package I had sent couldn't be delivered due to wrong address and to print out the attached receipt to bring to retrieve the package. Be aware that this is a current virus attack moving through the internet.
Our virus protection (AVG) didn't catch the virus in the attached zip file when the mail was received. However, after manually forcing an update it recognized the problem and isolated the email. On our system the automatic update occurs daily at 1:43 ET so it looks like the update was posted later yesterday afternoon. So get your virus protection updated.
Course I recognized several flags - the sender address wasn't from the US or UPS. A receipt doesn't need to be a 48m zip file - usually pdf. I hadn't sent a package recently. So I called my resident geek to deal with it.

Alisa, I actually contacted UPS last year to tell them about this scam. They said they couldn't keep other people from using their name. It was a weird response. I guess if it isn't REALLY their email, then they aren't responsible for the actions, and so what are they supposed to do about it.
So do you have to open the file to get the virus? I never open files like that. But I have opened the email.

Opening the email won't cause problems - opening the zip file is what causes the havoc.

Put it in delete and later on checked Snopes and saw it was what I expected it to be. Having only used UPS a couple times about 10 years ago , I wasn't in any doubt that I hadn't sent anyone anything . Now its double deleted and gone . McAfee didn't pick it up .

McAfee issued the patch to catch it yesterday afternoon. So your next update should pick it up if you get it again. The company my husband works for uses McAfee so he saw the update.
