In a few weeks, we will be co-hosting my wife's parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary Party. It will be a dinner party for around 75 people. My wife was wondering if any of you had a good idea for a special "activity" or bit of "entertainment" at such an event that you would like to share. Most of the plans have been made, but she's always interested in a little something extra.

(By the way, the dinner is being held in the dining hall on the Michigan District's campground--Indian Lake.)

Congrats to them ... and you caused a wee bit of nostalgia while telling us about this, too ... haven't been to Indian Lake campgrounds since ... ??

How about downloading songs from across the 50 years and looping it in the background or using it for a ppt? I managed to find about 10 for our 25th anniversary and put them on an ipod shuffle.

How about a Power Point shilde show of pictures of their 50 years together with anniversary songs playing?

I love the new song "When God Made You He must have been thinking of me" and Vince Gill's "After All These Years."

Our kids just put on a 50th anniversary celebration for Kay & I.
They had the grandkids do a skit about our first meeting, when I saw Kay for the first time. It was an exaggerated representation, followed by the grandkids, dressed in period style clothes, singing Elvis' "I'm All Shook Up." That was the highlight of the party.
With some imagination, I'm sure you all could adapt that type of scene.

BTW, we were at Indian Lake CG in 2006 for a reunion with some friends from my army days.

Some would find it interesting to research prices of different items at the time such as a Honeymoon suite, rings, tuxedo rental, suit prices, florist fees, cake creations, etc.

Last summer, my sister and I (along with our families) honored our parents with a 50th anniversary celebration. I converted 8mm movies taken from about 1957 up through 1970 to DVD and edited them into a kiosk-style presentation which I ran on the computer. Surrounding this were pictures and special artifacts from the 50 years, including scrapbooks made by my wife and sister summarizing their (and our) lives together as a family.

Other than the home movies, the other unique display was my mother's wedding dress. My wife has a mannequin that was the same size as the dress, so the mannequin was wearing the wedding dress. Though my parents knew the party would be occurring, they knew little of what was planned, so the life-like display of the dress was a complete surprise to my mother. I think her first words upon seeing it were along the lines of ever being that small. I'm attaching some some snapshots of the mannequin and the startled reaction from my mother. (My daughter and sister are the ones making sure the dress display is just right.)

We had no organized games, show, or activity, but instead planned for simple fellowship time. The grandson and a friend provided live banjo and mandolin music and their church pianist also added some background music. At other times, musical favorites from the 50's played in the background. There was plenty to eat, and we ate off of the leftovers into the next month.

This celebration was an opportunity for us to show how God had blessed our families for this half century plus and we were truly thankful to be able to reflect on it in this setting and share it with others. I hope your celebration will be equally as meaningful.
