I finished "Serve God, Save the Planet" (http://www.amazon.com/Serve-God-Save-Planet-Christian/dp/0310275342/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217876941&sr=8-1) last night. Nothing very new to me as far as "planet-saving" stuff, but his Christian reasoning was interesting as far as "creation care." He sounds pretty conservative Christian, which was interesting to me, too, since you imagine more liberal Christians being the ones interested in environment issues. Overall, it was a good read...he had a lot of anecdotes from his time as an ER and missionary doctor and on one page would have you crying and then laughing on the next. His stories were so compelling since he has seen first hand how environmental changes can directly help/harm people, especially in third world countries.

That part interests me, too. Growing up I only ever heard about creation care from liberals while the conservatives actually seemed to hate creation. 'Twas weird.
So when I read conservative theologians [ie. Al Truesdale in With Cords of Love] teach that God plans to redeem his creation, I am amazed. The church I grew up in was a definite advocate for an 'individual' style of salvation. Thanks for sharing about this book and author.

There's a couple spots in the book where he talks about using expired/donated drugs in his medical missionary work. I sent an email asking if there was an organization I could contact for more information and his wife replied saying there wasn't a national organization that she knew of but if local churches were organizing medical missionary teams I could contact them.
It's been a week since I finished this and I'm still finding myself thinking about points brought up in the book. I didn't think it had made such an impression on me, but apparently it has.
