I regularly write a column for our local newspaper. The editor for this section of the paper had initially asked me to write about current issues from a faith perspective. They have titled the column "Thoughts and Prayers." My assignment is for the paper delivered the first Friday of each month.

Personally, I desired to be less political than what the editors sought. To maintain my desire for discussing faith in a timely manner, I decided several years ago to work from the daily lectionary as the basis for the column. To date, I have deviated from that pattern just once.

Here is my copy for this week's column. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for posting this. I loved how you encouraged folks to vote for those whom they think will do the right thing for society. And you did so without leaning left or right!

I loved it. It also tied it in with what I was listening to/thinking about this morning. I have the OT on cassette which I listen to fairly regularly. This morning I listened to the graphic discription in 2 Kings 6:28 which describes a horrific account of what happens during a siege. It got me thinking that this is the end result of a society that consistantly turned its back on God. I liked how you worded it though "a society that lost its grounding" and "the problems of his day as “fruit” born out of unrighteousness.""
